Any news on whether or not we will be able to make multiple profiles on battle.net on release? I'd like to make an offrace profile so I can practice against other people without losing my rank.

I agree, I dont want to lose rank but I would still like to be able to play other races
|
I would also like to make a spam bot account so plz can som1 answer this
|
Nope. 1 account. Want another account for offracing? 50$

Last I heard Blizzard made it clear that this game is going to be 1 profile/account per CD key and that they have no intention of changing it. Presumably because it would be too easy to toss your placement matches, create a new account and kill bronze league folks, then repeat every time you get promoted.
It would be nice to have a different rank for each race though.

Don't think that would be a problem, if anyone would do that blizzard could simply ban the entire account.

Unfortunately no, no multiple accounts. But you can always do custom games to practice your offrace and work things out with practice partners
|
Or just don't worry about your rank so much and have fun

I would like this.
Somewhat related: I also want a profile feature for graphics/sound settings. I want to play with Low settings but I enjoy watching replays (and probably playing campaign) with higher graphics. Its annoying to manually switch everything back and forth.

Last time I remember this issue being brought up, they said they were still deciding on how to handle multiple profiles (might have been specifically for the purposes of off-racing).
If I'm wrong, feel free to provide a source, until then I'm re-opening this.

This is very true but could blizzard not just give placement matches to each race so your 1 profile could log your stats individually with each race and place you in a league relative to the skill of that specific race .
For example protoss in diamond Zerg in platinum terran in silver
All races under one ID

Anyhow, if the custom game system didn't suck so bad, this wouldn't be as big of a deal, but currently you can't even make specific game names... So let's say I want to play some PvT, I have nobody online who plays T, and I go to make a custom game....
I have no control over the level of my opponent, the race of my opponent, or indeed what matchup he's interested in playing. Compare this to the old SC1/WC3 system where I could create a game name called: "1v1 Lost Temple - Diamond - PvT"
|
It would be neat if they had a league for each race.
Meaning 5 placements each. You play terran mainly? You might be in diamond league. Zerg offrace? Platinum.
|
The race idea would work fine. I hope Blizzard finds the right solution for this if they still give a damn.

Yeah I agree wholeheartedly. That and the fact that a newer, better, game can never get its name out in the current system because nobody will ever play it enough for its name to get popular. Also the current system favors fast games over long ones.

I'll put money on you being able to make a new profile/change your name ... for a low low price of only $5-$15 bones!
|
It's the age of "please pay us some more PLZ".. No way they'll allow an extra service go free.

What a clever way to make SC2 like WoW, money making wise.

What about changing your profile name?
I take it they will add some paid service for that.

Word! The rank doesn't mean anything unless you want to be rand 1 diamond. Sad my friends don't get me and just look wierd at me if i point this out...

The solution to this 'problem' is to stop caring about ur rank, and stop thinking other people care about your rank.
|
On July 16 2010 08:46 prOxi.swAMi wrote: The solution to this 'problem' is to stop caring about ur rank, and stop thinking other people care about your rank. I think the issue is not "oh no, my rank will go down". The issue is, my Zerg and Terran are horrible. If I decide I want to offrace one day, I don't want to get stomped by diamond players until I get down to the division my Zerg play belongs in. Not to mention, when I go back to Protoss, having to play a bunch of players well below my skill level before I can rank up and play people on my level.
|
Hmm i dont know, i kinda like that you cant make more than 1 account, it makes me feel like i gotta preform 100% every time i play, and i mean its not too hard to practice other races in custom games with mates, and its pretty easy to find practice partners or players who just wanna play a game or 2 with you
i can ofc see why people would want to make more than 1 account, but im leaning more towards the 1 account only thing.
i think the 1 account only will raise the overall skill lvl faster at the " Normal " players compared to if you can just make a new account every time you screw up your stats or if you want a new account for each race, rather have people pick a race and then play it, and if you they wanna switch then they either just deal with it and go from the league their in or they go find practice partners or whatever.
|
One account per key is understandable, but it really should be separate ranks per race. Just another example of how far the decision makers at Blizzard are from their fans. No one that's been active in BW or WC3 would think 1 account, 1 rank for all races was sufficient or reasonable.
|
To a degree I can understand this being the way it is. If you could create as many accounts as you wanted, you'd have people making loads to continue arguments after being blocked (like in wow), and people restarting when they lose a placement match / things are going badly etc. This method does keep people on a solid track, improving and documenting the journey. But along the line it would be nice to be able to reset everything every few months for free. As for a separate measure for reach race, other than a display somewhere showing race stats, I don't see a need for this.
|
Guest-173 Considering the limitation of 1 account per purchase of SCII, it makes it very difficult for players to play their 'off' races competitively without losing their rank for their 'best' race. If having multiple accounts is not possible because of spam, and repeatedly playing against bronze-level to feel 'pro', etc, etc, Could it be possible to implement 4 different placement match sets of 5 for each individual race? (P T Z and Random?) So we can play all of them and improve our entire SC play, sti...
DustinB Yeah. I know exactly how you feel. I don't know what the fix is yet for this issue. We'll try to think of a good fix that makes everyone happy.

I think they need to find a middle ground. The completely open accounts of SC1 and WC3 need to go. It promoted rampant smurfing, names for botting, and names for griefing/teamkilling.
However, Giving people something like 3-5 different names would be nice. If you are just a smurfer, you run out fast. But it gives people the option of having a different name for different races, or it gives the option of 2 siblings to be able to play on the same account.
|
I'd like to be able to reset my stats if I wanted to.
Do placements again and work your way up.

Honestly, the only reason I want multiple profiles is so that I could play multiple races in 1v1 without hurting my record.
If they enabled seperate "teams" for each race on your stats screen, similar to how you can have multiple 2v2 teams, I would be more than happy. That would be great - not only can u play any race w/o losing ladder rankings, but you would be able to compare win percentages for each race.
|
I was wondering about this too - it makes no sense to me in terms of the 'login' screen, where you put in your password... press to connect... then you connect on the particular profile? I know it's semantics, but what's the point of the second "connection" button? There's no point of it being there unless you have a second account.
In the same vein too - what does the 'guest login' button entail? Login at a netcafe with a guest account? Login on a friends pc? Does anyone know what this is for?
|
the game should simply give you 4 ranks depending on what race option you choose. I could be lets say a diamond protoss, but at the same time be a bronze terrran and a silver zerg, and a silver random.
|
Honestly my brother is just never gonna play ladder if I can only make one account. There is no way we're actually gonna buy two copies just to have two accounts :/

If your brother isnt buying a copy of the game, he isn't really a customer, the person who bought the game is.

Blizz has already said that they understand the need for a way to play as another race or a new style that doesn't damage your win/loss record, and that they are looking into solutions. Expect it 1st expansion.

Uh yeah, this is exactly what they are trying to prevent. Stomping noobs in placements or low ranks. It is called smurfing and it ruins the game for a lot of people.

+1. I would love this, fantastic idea.

Just reading a few Blue posts, they do have intentions on making players get "licenses" in order to play cross realm.
I'm guessing it will will either be: 5$ a month for a license or 20$ up front for unlimited access to 1 realm.
I really hate this idea, and feel the game is becoming less about fun, eSports, and the community, and all about squeezing every cent out of the players.
