I saw some previous threads about rumors, but it's been officially posted on the GameStop webpages that they will be giving beta keys to people who are pre-ordering the game. You can get it online and they'll email it to you, go in-store and it'll be on your receipt, or pick everyone's favorite in-store pickup and you'd go in to the store to get one.
If you haven't figured out already, pre-order the game, but if you don't want it later on or just want a beta key, opt-out of the final purchase. My personal favorite method is to pre-order, then wait out for a better deal while getting all the pre-order perks, and return the new order when it comes in to get everything at the lowest price.

Just want to also note the coupon code is for the total order, SC2 or not. Works for both collector's and Non-collector's edition.

You aren't quite screwed because if you don't get a key, you can still cancel your pre-order. Kind of silly saying you can't cancel your pre-order if they didn't give you real hard incentive to do so (IE: Giving you a key).

Just called a Gamestop shop in my city and asked them about the pre-order for Germany. Unfortunately there seems to be no such offer here. You can pre-order the game, but without getting a beta key.
They gave me the advice to wait a week or two. Chances are good that this offer will be available for other countries outside the US, too.

Most people I talk to seem to think that sc2 was going to be delayed until holiday season. I bet many of those that paid top dollar for keys were thinking that too.
I'm really going to LOL if the game makes it out in May. I'm still thinking June, but the schedule seems to be accelerating.

It's such a great deal though if you want to get a game + SC2, just use the 25% off, or 2 copies, or etc.

Ugh, it's not worth it to pay 2x the shipping cause they won't ship as a bundle. Sucks, I could get it for ~$15 cheaper than here AND get a key if they'd just bundle together. It's $7 more expensive without the 25% off lol.

Would it be wise for a guy living in Singapore to actually pre-order and get that beta-key despite being region locked and all? Does the distance between players affect the latency of the game in ranked ladder matches? Or would it be that if i get that pre-order beta key and register it to my BNet account, i'll be locked to the asia realm?

Not familiar with how this promotion works, but I assume if they simply send you a beta key, you can apply it to your battle.net account which will automatically assign it to your region

You don't pay until they ship. However, if they send you a key, they said you won't be able to cancel your order. I haven't received a key, and unless I'm missing something, I don't see a button to cancel my order on my pre-order order page. Lol, I knew it was a wise decision not to preoder SC2 sooner. Something was bound to happen to boost the sales. Every game does that nowadays, it's no surprise SC2 is doing it too. But what sucks ass is this deal is US-only (you should put that in the OP btw), and apparently there aren't any gamestops in Belgium LOL. The nearest is in France I think, as far as I could tell from that shitty buggy "store locator" google map thingy. Otherwise, I saw Germany having gamestops, but not Benelux. wtf is up with that?

I'm so confused right now. If I order 2 CE's, it doesn't give me the option to pick up in the store, but it gives me the 25 percent off. However, if I order any other permutation of items > 100 dollars, it gives the error and will not take 25 percent off.

I figured out why it wasn't giving me the 25 percent off. You have to order it and have it delivered to your house via mail rather than an in store pickup. The in store pickup is not considered an online buy even though you do it thru the web interface. XD

I bought 2 online and the 25% off promo did not work for me either. I choose in store pickup.
I waited 24 hours. Went to my local Gamestop. They gave me two beta keys but had to put each one on a separate receipt. My beta; it's downloading now. I have already called in sick for tomorrow.
As I play over the next 72 hours I will try to stay hydrated. I have a timer (that goes ping!) every 15 minutes to remind me to get up and walk around so I don't develop blood clots in my legs. I have also laid in a supply of Doritos and Bear Semen.
I just want to thank Dustin Browder for giving me this little bit of happiness in my life.
And I know I join my brothers (and sisters) in this 21 flailing nerd arm salute.

Both of the keys that I received were not printed on the receipt. They were hand-written onto a small piece of scrap paper. The CSR copied it by hand... Now that I think of it, I'm glad it worked since I didn't even check it before I left. I just raced out of there as fast as I could to get home... Also, I'm in Canada so I went to EBGames but they're essentially the same.

Thank you OP, I ordered it online used the coupon.
Bought the CE with another game so used the coupon. However if you do this it seems to not allow you to get free 3 day shipping. At least I didn't see this as an option. I got it with the free 5-10 all I could choose from. I emailed them so I'll update you guys with what they say.
I couldn't justify paying $100 for it but I could $20 more for the CE. :D
I just hope they send me out the beta key so I have something fun to do this weekend.

Hmm ok so here's my predicament -- I'm an American abroad in Europe and will be until mid-summer. As such, delivery of the game and what not is not a problem, as I suspect I'll be home by the time it's released. However, being that I will be in Europe until mid-summer, will the beta-key restrict me to US servers? Or even if luck permitting I can use it on the European servers, will I be able to switch to US servers upon returning to the US?

It don't matter where u live right now. The server Is picked from your client. So if you take US client and u live in europe your key will become US etc..

I don't think people understand. Beta keys aren't tied to a region. Your battle.net account will determine which server you get assigned to, B.net account or the client, like that guy said, whichever.
But if you're now here in Europe, I think you'll get assigned to the EU server. But when you return to the US, I have no idea if you'll stay be able to switch servers or not. Dunno if it stays locked on 1 region or if it adjusts accordingly.
But I'm sure once retail hits, you'll be playing on the US servers, provided that you'll be back in the US.

From what I hear the as long as any custom AI mods are removed the cracked game can be used with any battle.net account that is associated with a beta-key.

I didn't pay attention at first, so I did the 5 day shipping one too for my CE + 25OFF order. Then I after I noticed it, I just called them to change that to the 3-day, no problem there.

Hi, my first ever post. I have been playing SC/BW since day 1. I've broken and rebought the CD several times over the years due to addiction issues. I was one of the first few raters on Battlereports.com years ago, and would have been willing to pay big money on ebay for a key but wasn't sure if it would work on my equally old school computer. But for $5 I just ran out to Gamestop at lunch and now have to sit it at work until 5 p.m. or so until I can go home and try it.
How exciting. I've been reading TL for a while now, and thought this would be a great reason to start posting to tell people about the $5 beta keys, but many have already beaten me to the punch. Talk to you soon.

if you go with warcraft 3's beta, SC2 beta should last for a few more months.
But saying SC2 beta will last until October is a long stretch. I doubt it will last that long, simply because balancing/tweaking an Mmo for release seems more difficult than a RTS.
Considering WoW was blizzards first mmo, I'd imagine they'd make sure it was extra polished; especially if consumers are paying monthly for it. SC2 isn't Blizz's first RTS so the tweaking phase shouldn't take as long.

It's obviously limited release, and Starcraft 2 is going to be around for a while, so I could see it selling for quite a bit more than $100 in a few months or a year or two..

I pre ordered last week at gamestop so i can't get the 25% off since i paid the full. However i went in store today and they canceled the preorder and added the preorder internally in their system and he printed out a new receipt with the beta code. I was paranoid about someone saying their code was already claimed in an earlier reply so i added the code to my account via iphone and it worked.
So now it's time to get my ass kicked online.

Same here. It's not that big a deal for me since my roommate's computer isn't great and would usually play games on mine, and I don't mind sharing with him, but if you're paying for two, you should get two.

I called in - number 1-800-883-8895 , option 1 (English), option 2 (Website questions), option 1 (Online order) (hope I have that all correct). Mentioned that I had ordered the game and noticed the 3-day shipping but wasn't able to get it online. He asked for me order number and changed it in one minute - no questions asked.
However - now my online status shows:

Hmm I want to preorder the collectors edition but I'll be in vegas from june until mid july. If the game comes out then I'd have to pick it out in vegas, but if it doesn't then it'd be stuck at the vegas gamestop. I'm thinking I'll have to wait it out and forgo the 25% discount code and beta key? It would be absolute hell for me knowing the game was out for a day or more and not being able to play it so getting it asap is a must.

In the past I have ordered several games from Gamestop with overnight shipping. This includes both WoW expansions along with other non-Blizzard games. If you get overnight shipping, it almost always is on your door the morning/afternoon of the day it is released (meaning you get it on Tuesday and it is shipped to you on Monday). If you get something like standard shipping, I would think it will ship either Monday or Tuesday and you wouldn't get it until later in the week.
I love doing overnight shipping (if you can spare the money) online because it usually does end up at your house the day of release. I know I will be taking off work that Tuesday to play!

Pre-order isn't a contract to buy the game; they can't track you down and force you to pay the other $55 in exchange for the game. You certainly can consider it a $5 beta key. ^_^

the 25 cents off is discount just for the Madden game...There should be another $25 discount posted for SC2 CE [i'm assuming you got the collectors]. If not, you should call up Gamestop.

I am raging pretty hard, because now I can't figure out how to cancel the order completely. There's no option for it on the website, as far as I can tell. I've e-mailed them and I'm waiting for a response. Let me know if you hear anything on your end, I will do the same.

I just called GameStop's customer service and got my pre-order canceled. It was pretty easy.

To everyone else interested: I'm currently e-mailing and in contact with them as well, in hoping that I can get the discount. As soon as I get any contact about this I will let you guys know. Until then I can only hope I get this thing resolved.
It's not that I don't have $100 to spend, but I need/want to use it for other things and the whole point of getting the special version of SCII is for the stuff AND because of the discount. If I'm stuck with this wouldn't it be possible to sue for false advertising? I know it's not a healthy mentality but I'm kinda worried over this as well. Upon checking their site FAQ on preorders they don't have anything to mention about it there either. Hopefully this will get resolved nicely.

Don't worry about it! They say allow for 24 hours, and so far everyone has gotten their key before then. I'm sure if you don't you could raise hell and Gamestop will fix it for you. You're pretty much assured your key when you preordered. Be happy!

Does this mean that NOTHING is charged on my card right now and I can pay when the shipment arrives for pickup? Am I interpreting this wrong...? There was no option for in-store pickup, but I just realised now that I was on gamestop.com, maybe gamestoop.ca will give me that option? I will go try now.

That's strange. I was given a choice for free 5-10 day shipping. Many people reported getting free 3-day shipping, but those people didn't enter the 25OFF code.

I am exactly in the same boat if someone would verify that they got a email key when they ordered online and chose to ship it to a "local" gamestop that would be great.
Edit: You can preorder StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty online and receive your code through email; preorder the game for in-store pick-up, wait 24 hours, and then go to the store for your code; or preorder the game at the store itself, with the code printed out on your receipt.

I'm in the same boat. I thought when we "ordered online" and shipped it to the store that we would get a key through email.
I shipped it to the store so I can get it the first day it'd come out. I already have a key but I have a list of people I was trying to get keys for so getting the beta key is a nice bonus to reserving a copy.

Fun story: I pre-ordered from GameStop, got sent a confirmation email that I couldn't fulfill (international debit card - no cc statement with card number), and they sent me a key after I replied to cancel.
There's no way I can pass up a key - so I'm giving them another chance to keep my order.

You'll have to go pick up a code in-store. If you're like me, however, and have no access to the store just call in the morning when they open and cancel your order, while placing another one online.

I contacted some stores in sweden about the same deal for us in the EU. Webhallen didn't know when this deal was going to come out here.
But then i mailed CDON.com and they contacted their resellers who said it was coming in aprox 2 weeks.
From CD on swedish:

Dunno if it has been said already: Customers from Europe that bought theyr copy online will get their key and it works on eu battle.net accounts. Now my only problem is, that I previously downloaded the US client and need to download the EU client now...isn't there a faster way to change the US client into an EU one?

I ordered mine for in store pick up.. but I ordered it online. The website made it seem that I would receive my key via email, but I haven't yet (been over 36 hours). Do I need to bring my receipt to the store to get my beta key? That would be pretty lame, I'm at school right now and I signed up to pick up the game at my home town (5 hours away lol)

Since you aren't going to play the US client on release, you don't really care about getting the game right? Just the key? If the key is just emailed to you or something, and all you care about is the key, just ship it to the USA so its cheaper! :D

Well, you CAN of course play on the USA servers if you order the USA client. You'll have USA beta as well as USA retail. I simply assumed that Europeans who are pre-ordering the USA retail client are only doing it for the beta key. So they will play the USA beta, and then buy the European retail once it is released. I was simply making this assumption. Perhaps people will just stick to the USA server.
But what I was saying was simply ASSUMING that Europeans will buy BOTH USA and Euro clients for the sake of playing beta.
I just wish there was some way for our community to work together. It seems silly to have Europeans paying so much for shipping when someone in the USA would be able to help lower that cost.
Maybe some people in the USA would be willing to buy multiple copies of the game and then sell the keys back to Europeans who just want the beta key and plan to buy the European client later?
Then again, maybe European retailers will be giving out beta keys for pre-order in the coming days. Just throwing ideas out there!

Yeah in-store requires you to go pick it up. You can cancel and re-order online though.

In one order, I bought two copies of SC2 assuming they would send me two beta keys. Well, 20 hours later, they've only sent me one? Did anybody who purchased two copies in one order receive two keys? And if so, did they come in the same e-mail or separate?

This is atleast what everyone in the thread have said spanning over the last eight pages or so, and it seems to be correct. If you order with the "in-store pickup" you WILL HAVE TO pick up a receipt with the beta key, and not sit and wait for an e-mail.

I would imagine there is an enormous amount of online pre-orders as well as customer service inquiries about when (or if) beta keys will be sent out. I suppose I'll cancel the pre-order if it doesn't show up by the weekend though.

Does someone knows if Amazon allows you to cancel your pre-order after sending you a beta-key?
Amazon will not ship outside the US, but I have family here. But as we do not know the release date, I'm not sure if I will be visiting at the time the game is released.
Is it possible to cancel Amazon pre-order for a "free" key, or I am better off buying a key off Ebay (they are about 10$ now)?

Fantastic, finally received my beta key. Around 28 hours or so, and I actually got it about an hour after I contacted the customer support (I first waited 24 hours). So, if you haven't received the key after the 24 hour timeframe, just contact customer support and they'll help you out.
Also, the keys work in EU.

Ya, the one I went to also had a small number. They were already out when I got there. I didnt ask how many they got though. I dont see why they would get a limited number. That is silly. I went today to get it in person and there was a key printed on the receipt, but the lady also wrote a separate one down on the back off of the receipt off of a list of keys she had there. Got two for one! =D

gamestop originally sent me 2 keys in the email for my (2) preordered retail boxes.. today they sent me another email with another key in it. anyone else get a 3rd key for no reason? i haven't verified that it works yet, but theres no reason why it shouldn't. yay me

Gamespot has now made it so you can't get the 25%off deal with the collectors edition. Now I wish I had pre-ordered it sooner. As for now I guess I'll just wait, seeing as I'm already in the beta, and hope for another deal to come along.

A LOT of places are doing this now - it must be in relation to Blizzard. Amazon.com, EBGames, etc all offer a beta key with SC2 preorder. Just check your local game stores website. w00t!

Does anybody know exactly how the region system works? I heard for the beta the keys are generic and the region is assigned based on which battle.net region you log in to i.e if you register at kr.battle.net instead of the US one you join the Korean server.
If the same system applies to the actual product that everyone's ordering, then it makes sense for us non-Americans to pre-order it... but if we're going to be stuck playing on the US servers then it might make sense to wait (as agonizing as it is to not have a beta key.)

yes this worked ive done it for me and my cuzn have patience for the email, I did mine on April 23 got my key within 2 hrs, I did my cuzns on April 24 @ like 3pm didnt receive the key til April 25 @ 2am. Its a legit promo, my main concern is will they pre-ship it as soon as it comes in? or will they wait til its release date before shipping it.

u wont be charged til it ships like it says but u cant cancel ur order now as it says once ur beta key is sent, your order CANT be cancelled.

the problem is if u preorder it from US, ur essentially paying for shipping to Signapore. Like im from Canada i tried gamestop.ca they didnt have anymore Beta keys, but gamestop.com (US) did, so i swallowed the $15 shipping cost and preordered it. So in the end its gonna cost me $80 total for the game with a beta key, but the difference is in the US it sells for 59.99 in Canada its gonna sell for $10 more @ 69.99. so really im only losing a dollar and i gain a beta key in the process.

To shanz3 and everybody else from Europe still undecided or unsure if this will work for you abroad. I am from Germany and just preordered the game. I will see if I do receive my beta key tmrw or not (I sure hope so.. ). I will post here immediately when I have news.

The store is getting beta keys soon for people making preorders. Apparently they can't send it to you, and you'll have to go pick the key up at the store. Preorder fee is 5€ and you'll be called as soon as the key is available.
Similar deals should be appearing elsewhere in EU as well (at least sweden and denmark were mentioned a day or couple ago in other topics)

I did some reserch yesterday and found out that Sweden also will have beta keys for pre-orders in GameStop stores. The same deal as in Finland it seams, you have to pre-order in store and collect the key in store too.

Yes. You must have an account on battle.net. Afterwards you go to your account and add your new game. It will ask you then for the code. Beware on which server do you want to play - if you like Europe then you must login from eu.battle.net; if you like US select us.battle.net. Do not rush this. I know you want it badly . Be careful on the server selection  . Once it is binded you cannot change it.

If the same system applies to the actual product that everyone's ordering, then it makes sense for us non-Americans to pre-order it... but if we're going to be stuck playing on the US servers then it might make sense to wait (as agonizing as it is to not have a beta key.) the problem is if u preorder it from US, ur essentially paying for shipping to Signapore. Like im from Canada i tried gamestop.ca they didnt have anymore Beta keys, but gamestop.com (US) did, so i swallowed the $15 shipping cost and preordered it. So in the end its gonna cost me $80 total for the game with a beta key, but the difference is in the US it sells for 59.99 in Canada its gonna sell for $10 more @ 69.99. so really im only losing a dollar and i gain a beta key in the process.
I pre-ordered from amazon.ca and got free shipping, so the total came out to $ 67. It's only been a day of waiting though, so I haven't got a key yet.
