I am for chat channels 100%. Many times I've logged on only to chat with other players - when studying it's good to still be able to talk to all your friends. Also - if there's a limit on party sizes, how on earth are you supposed to have a large conversation? Or organise a tournament? Or communicate with another 2v2 group in the same place?

Also, there's no was they can't implement a channel for clan chat, so I don't see how the code for chat won't already be in the system. It should be very simple to allow people to create their own public and private channels.

Edit:

They're surely going to try and tap into their lucrative WoW base as well, and I think a "must have" feature for these players would be an interface with their WoW guild chat. If they are planning to allow cross-game chat, what on earth is with the no channels?

Also, this, except I thought that you could see the second part of their name post-match and in the replay.

I think they'll add chat rooms soon. The "social" button is greyed out, that's probably going to be where chatrooms etc will be.

Yeah chat channels definitely need to come back. I logged onto BNet for my first 10 games or so filled with excitement.But the sad fact is that despite my overwhelming excitement for the game, the BNet experience seemed cold, desolate and lonely. (SC2 has been awesome though)

the one thing I kept feeling sitting there finding games was the lack of presence from another person being online. it felt really isolated, even using the silly chat feature they have. would love to have channels just to join and talk with others about the game and find games that won't be against shitty people who only make drones all game T_T

I'm still not seeing it in the replay, I know it's on the end game thing but how do you bring that one up again. Going to recent games in the profile only lists the first part still :[

Thats what i meant. I meant "No chat rooms are really discourgaing for new players..." not "no, chat rooms..."

As someone who didn't really care before, after watching streams it does feel quite disconnected. All the beta testers need to post on battle net like a poll or something.

If Blizzard's existing solution was a sufficient replacement, then we would naturally forget about chat channels, but since it isn't, this is evidence they are still needed.

how are you supposed to easily meet new people and make new friends w/o channels? ive so many thoughts on this but no time to go into em all right now, but this something they really need to add.

i just really hope they improve the interface as well, i dont see why they couldnt make it more like hon's server

Yup that's what i was thinking i mean without channels how am i suppose to scrim with people when i want to i have to friend them first which frankly i don't like to do because what if i don't like the fellow, then spam them asking for game rather then just asking if anyone wants to play in a channel.

only command i know is /r for replying when people message. i've yet to find what whisper is, and /help doesn't do anything like it should T_T

I like how they add all these cool features to talk to friends, but how do you think nearly 100% of these online friendships began? In a chat room!

When I was a little newb growing up in Clan ~Nohunters and x17 before replays I use to obs games between really amazing players and that really inspired me to improve and to attempt new strategies. Not to mention when those players would obs you? Holy fuck - the pressure was on and it brought me to play my best.

But without chat, I really doubt I would have ever found teamliquid, in turn liquidpoker, and in turn positively impact my life. All because a fucking chat room introduced me to this. It's amazing when I think about this now.
