Not so much as "rewarding the wrong people", because number of posts, specifically in TeamLiquid with the high quality moderation, seems fair; but what I think is wrong about that rule is that it is a black and white, binary, one-time only evaluation process that tries but isn't in any way promoting user participation.

If the idea is to encourage people to be more active and generate more engagement, TL should be trying to use such prizes on developing these over time, not imposing such arbitrary statistical rules. Of course it takes much more effort and time, but look how Valve was giving away Dota2 keys: they encouraged you to answer pools, contributing content, spreading the word, etc.

The "500 posts" rule seems much more like a reminiscent of a [sorry the harsh criticism] elitist community that rewards older [posting] members.

Yeah, by judging from my number of posts, it's very apparent that I felt excluded and it motivated me to write about it. But on the other hand, I myself am just like tuoli9, I've been reading TL since what, I think 2004~2005, never registered an account.

If there was an incentive to write good quality blogs, contribute to liquipedia, write about HotS, produce a funny artwork; whatever, I'd think about participating. But with the "X posts" rule, I'm not encouraged to post any more than I was before.

Also let me be clear that I'm not the kind of people that just wants an organization to do my wishes. I think this was a business opportunity that in my opinion was lost.
