I wouldn't bet against them. Atalanta have been quality today though.

Atalanta have been quality today though. Total collapse on our side, idk if we simply underestimated them or just didn't care about this leg or something. Because this was the worst performance of the season bar none. No energy, no urgency, then once again our lack of finishing in front of goal was highlighted. Jota who normally is good in the air had two of the worst headers I've ever seen too. Shame that Gakpo has a really solid game for us and has nothing to show for it.

Granted I probably post a lot more nonsense. I was consoling my Liverpool-supporting friend last night with my theory that whoever exits Europe first of the title-chasing trio is my favourite for the Prem. I think it’ll be that tight that being able to purely focus on it could well be the thin margin that decides it. Also congrats to Atalanta, floated a bit under my radar this season but that’s a hell of a result

From the outside the guy looks a genuine quality COACH, now that isn't to say he is a world class manager of egos and players etc, but from a coaching perspective he has improved played and adapted a system around what he has and took Sporting to the top of Portugal? Or is that not as simple as what i see from the outside? Genuinely interested as i wanted this guy in Chelsea lol. But then again i want anyone over fucking Poch the sausage.

No no, im not saying he isnt a good coach. But last time i saw this level of hype was with Mourinho and AVB and both of them had much better results internally and in a completely different league in Europe. Amorim turned sporting from a team fighting to keep 3rd place to a team fighting for the league title. But Sporting is not "dominating" in Portugal. Porto has been bankrupt for a few years and they have still been above sporting more often than not. Benfica is having a bad season and up to this weekend they were still very much in contention. Sporting this year has been good and consistent, but their advantage in the league is much more due to the fact that the other 2 have been worse than usual this year, than Sporting being something amazing.

Yeah if the reports are to be believed I could see this being a good appointment, presumably they’ve done a fair bit of homework. On the flipside, as you say unlike Mourinho or AVB he doesn’t have that real obvious pedigree in getting a team from Portugal to be having success on the European level. How does his team play? If it’s a very Kloppish approach to the game then it starts to make a lot more sense. There’s plenty of good coaches on the market but many approach the game very differently, parachuting someone with a fundamentally different approach into a squad built over years to play a certain style is a recipe for a bad immediate succession

Oh right, thanks for the update. Do you think he will be going to Liverpool too early then? Or you think he is ready for a new challenge and could be as good as Mourinho etc?

Spurs had no Richarlison so they couldn't find a way through. Werner tried hard but isn't suited to a low block and missed early chances, Johnson is a hack and Kulusevski only has one trick and he couldn't cut in on his left without there being bulk defenders in the way. None of the three ever tracked back so just about every Newcastle counter ended in a goal
