Haha and I don't know who that Sheffield manager was, but I feel sorry for him because of his surname...

Haha and I don't know who that Sheffield manager was, but I feel sorry for him because of his surname... It’s just an anachronism I guess from the birthplace of the game. The ‘home nations’ still hold on to 4 spots on the rule making committee too. Indeed there was a worry that having ‘Team GB’ at previous Olympics would see that reverted, if you go against your special status once then it’s a good excuse to remove it in future. This is probably why the constituent parts of the UK are in qualifying to play under the banner, although to my understanding after qualification there would be no pooling of players for a UK team. I guess parts of the UK are more distinctive/historically were their own nations versus regions in some other places but I’ve always found it somewhat odd that they get to compete in sports as separate entities. Of course for us here it’s usually a good thing as we get to fight out (mostly) good-natured rivalries and have teams more representative of us, although there are certain negatives such as the aforementioned or Northern Ireland usually being shit.

I think Thomas Tuchel will lead Bayern to the Champions League victory, and I am considering betting a decent amount of money on that, I’m too broke to bet/it’s a rare vice I’ve not been consumed by, wisely never starting it as opposed to smoking and drinking. I do fancy them, at least in my top 2 or 3this season, I don’t think City (like almost any team) can quite repeat the levels after such a huge triumph last time. Real don’t feel as good a team balance wise in lack of a top centre forward and Bellingham isn’t going to bail them out every second game for a whole season, good as he is. Liverpool look dangerous this season and they’d do some damage if only they were in the competition. Arsenal look pretty capable but who knows? I think my beloved Inter are actually a better side this season and if any Italian side goes deep it’ll be them but I don’t see the draw opening up like last year’s. I think of a tie we can beat anyone, and hell we did run City close, but I don’t think we’ve the capacity to run a gauntlet of top, top sides. To advance we need to be on top form on a night, and one of the big boys have to be slightly off colour/we ride a bit of luck. Doing that multiple times in a row and it gets less and less likely I shall just have to make do without a betting payout and merely get to rub sharkie’s nose in it if Tommy Tuchs shepherds his boys to glory.

Real has been quite decent this season actually. And it's Real so you can never count them out. I believe it was you who tried it last season on multiple occasions :D and they were still in the semis only losing to City once. Top 3 in no order are Bayern, City and Real

Top 3 in no order are Bayern, City and Real I did it the last season they won, every knockout round basically. Plus last too :p I still stand by the former incidentally, may as well own it haha I can’t recall a champion that was second best in most knockout ties but kept winning quite as Real that year. If Juventus in the 90s were a better team than their European crowns denoted I think Real are the opposite in the Ronaldo era thru now. Still a great team and institution of course, and they’re still very good

They lose games every now and then, no shocker there, but that's the most lopsided stat against them I've seen in the entire pep era. Hell you can throw in pep's barca and bayern period there too.

It’s rare you see City properly dominated like that. So rare that one can recall matches where it happened off the top of the head, like Liverpool blowing them away in the CL a few years ago. Seriously impressive stuff from Villa, they’ve been good at reliably beating everyone they’re meant to beat so far but this is a real statement win against one of the big boys

City definitely don't look the same without Rodri, and also missing some other key players in this game meant that they were always going to go into this game on a much more even footing than normal matches. Vila Park is a fortress this season too (won all games at home this season in all competitions). Emery has absolutely turned this team into a masterclass, what a manager.
