Man I really am getting sick of Man City haha

Lets hope for the same level of excitement from a few years ago where gundogan scored twice to turn the game around for citi amd give them the league.

That was a rollercoaster couple of hours

Manu - Newcastle was a fun watch last night. Not necessarily highest quality (no shit, right?) but action packed football. Happy that we managed to pick up a win after losing two.

Wolves have tabled a bid to scrap VAR in the EPL for 24/25. 14/20 clubs would need to vote to overturn it for it to go.

From the Optus Sport article:
Wolves said VAR had been introduced "in good faith and with the best interests of football and the Premier League at heart" but lamented a number of negative repercussions.

The club say VAR has caused frustration and confusion among match-going fans, negatively impacted the atmosphere at games, diminished accountability of match officials and overreached beyond its original aim to correct "clear and obvious" errors.

Wolves also said persistent errors being made despite the presence of VAR were difficult to accept and had furthered "completely nonsensical" allegations of corruption from supporters.

The club added: "Our position is that the price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game, and as a result we should remove it from the 2024-25 season onwards."

From the Guardian article:
League officials have met with Wolves representatives to address their concerns. Any club can put forward a proposal but it is understood the Premier League board is adamant removing VAR would not be a positive step, partly because it would likely place even greater scrutiny on decisions made by match officials.

There is a belief within PGMOL and the league that VAR is an important tool for referees. It has helped increase the number of correct decisions made in games from 82%, before its introduction, to 96% this season. There is a line of thinking that the introduction of semi-automated offside technology and in-stadium VAR announcements will improve the decision-making further and increase transparency and reduce delays.

Will be interested to see how the clubs vote.

They should change personnel. You can't have referees in charge of VARing. Especially after what Mike Dean said about not giving a decision because he didn't want to embarrass his mate. It throws the integrity of the entire system into question. The refereeing scene is extremely political and you have groups of friends, refs that all the other refs hate etc. and if Dean says that stuff can worm its way on to the pitch you need to take drastic action to stop it from happening.

Have an ex player, an ex manager and an ex ref do the VAR for each game.

There's no way they will scrap VAR, no matter what the clubs vote for. Its here and it ain't going anywhere.

Yeah i saw a comment on reddit which summed up the view. Something along the lines of,

"this is what happens when people buy something they don't know how to use and try to return it"

The hype hasn't really started yet, even though the squad was announced. I haven't even looked into other squads yet, something i usually do for all the teams.

Three A-League players have been arrested over a betting scandal. Allegedly they were taking bribes to deliberately get yellow cards for gambling reasons.

ABC article

Three Macarthur FC players have been suspended from the A-League after being charged over an alleged betting scandal.

Football Australia issued no fault suspensions on Friday night for Macarthur captain Ulises Dávila and his teammates Clayton Lewis and Kearyn Baccus.

The trio were arrested in dawn raids on Friday after the NSW Police Organised Crime Squad Gaming Unit launched an investigation into the alleged manipulation of yellow cards during football games for gambling purposes.

Police will allege detectives discovered Mr Dávila, 33, had been taking instructions from a man — believed to be in South America — to organise yellow cards to occur during certain points in A-League games.

In other news, gambling in sport is a plague.

Is Australian sport anything like the UK where betting sponsorship is absolutely all over the place?

Bookies essentially pay the players' wages in the UK. The politicians' wages too.
Its fucking disgusting.

Yes, arguably worse? Australia has the highest gambling losses per capita in the world.

The NRL (National Rugby League) even had a bookie as part of the commentary team for a while there. He would give live odds updates on just about everything every couple of minutes.

Having said that, I can't think of a betting company that has a front of shirt sponsorship off the top of my head.

Yeah I do wonder how Bayern would have performed without Kane. Maybe even struggled for CL places?

On here we have them as front shirt sponsors and pretty much everywhere.

The league was even bwin league (bet&win).

Best season ever. Now all we need is Leverkusen holding in to their streak in Euro League and Dortmund winning the CL with Marco Reus beeing the MVP :D
