Because they’ve not just had the best players, which they also tend to have, but they’ve generally kept on top of the coaching/tactical trends at the top of the game. Real haven’t really, and aren’t showing an inclination to do so if rumours of Bellingham/Mbappe are anything to go by. They’re competing at a time where the best clubs are both playing greater than the sum of their parts, and with comparable parts, and IMO getting outstripped because of it. City are on course for yet another 90+ points season in the Prem and eviscerated Real in the second leg. Real have conceded the title to a relatively mediocre Barcelona and last term posted a title winning total equivalent to Arsenal this season. It’s a good thing for the game overall as a neutral that Real are lagging behind a bit, a Real run as systemically as a City or a Bayern would be caking La Liga in its current state, but I think it’s fair to acknowledge they are lagging behind a bit as a club in terms of the top to bottom running of it Barca in the league isn't mediocre. They have 3 points less than city with one game less played.

And perhaps self-inflicted to a degree but they’ve had to cut spending somewhat and have a cohesive team identity and gameplan to compensate and done rather well for it. There is a bit of contrast there. I’m not bashing Real either they’ve had that real clutch factor in recent years and some tremendous talent, I just feel they are a little behind in maximising that compared to many other clubs, they’d be a scary prospect indeed if they were! They’re more like a PSG, except emboldened by the shirt rather than cowed, than some of Europe’s other top teams.

An especially dangerous move to make after coming over for a giant fee and not yet delivering. You’d think you’d want to keep your head down

The only team with more is Man City (21) 😮 Earlier this week, Pep Guardiola called Roberto De Zerbi "one of the most influential managers in the last 20 years" 👏

I mean Pep goes a bit over the top as he always does but de Zerbi is evidently a very good coach

Title winners - Dortmund or Bayern Final Champions League spot - Union Berlin or Freiburg Conference League playoff spot - Leverkusen or Wolfsburg Automatic relegation and relegation playoff - Augsburg, Stuttgart, Bochum, Schalke Literally every single game has something riding on it, zero dead rubbers.
