the first play where he runs down the kid from 10 yards behind starting on the opposite side of the field is always hilarious

Field Goal would have been fine too, but I don't really think it was a playcall issue Edit: Having said that I'd be pissed if I were a Bills fan and be saying they should have kicked it all along : )

Some real math wizards with all the data will likely do the math but baaically you would compare the chances of tge play working vs the chances of making the field goal + winning in overtime. And then maybe even if you win the coin toss or lose it to see if you want destiny in your hands or not. Im not sure on this particular one but most of the time tge math favors the bold non traditional football choice, especially in shootouts. Saw an article on it recently. I think the coin flip winner is favored like 54/46 since the rule change

The interesting thing was that college OT was actually more unbalanced in favor of the team going 2nd cause they know what they have to do to win whereas the first team always has to play for a td

Well, the Bills had to make the decision before the coin toss. It really boils down to chance of making the field goal * winning in overtime vs chance of getting a first down. There is no need to overcomplicate it for the coach on the field who isn't a math guy. Btw, success rate of qb sneaks on 4th and 1 is roughly 83%.

John McCain has been covering football in Houston since the Oiler days, so I think I'm going to trust his report.
