No-one's mentioned the biggest fixture of the season so far.
Arsenal vs Forest in the Carabao Cup next Tuesday, of course.

Will Arsenal get revenge for the absolute nailing we gave them in the cup a couple of years ago?
Will Forest destroy what is likely to be Arsenal's youth reserve team again?
WHO KNOWS??

Chealsea should win easy playing at home. Valencia is in chaos right now. New coach with almost no experience, and the players and supporters hate the change because they all supported Marcelino.

Betting big on Dortmund winning here, Barca looking a bit lost minus Messi and look a bit too open at the back compared to normal. Dortmund also scoring for fun right now.

PSG vs Real game is literal 50-50 with it being Hazard and Neymar's practical first games of the season too.

Other than the Liverpool vs Napoli game the rest look rather dull, but being dull compared to PSG vs Real and Barca vs Dortmund isn't exactly saying much!

Interested in Chelsea's formation vs Valencia more than anything after debuting 3 at the back vs Wolves on Sautrday and then we have to invite Liverpool to Stamford bridge on sunday as well.

Liverpool with 5/5 , City with "only" 10 points.
I remember there was some kind of bet about this?

While that is certainly unexpected, we're still very early in the season. Liverpool were 10? points clear at one point around christmas last year as well. Way too early to call anything. Although City's central defenders look very subpar without Laporte.

City were looking a bit fragile anyway last season at certain stages where as Liverpool in 2019 must have some nuts record, however they are one injury to Firminho away from looking a bit average.

Like you say a long way to go and Liverpool have to go to Qatar for club world championships in December which puts them 2 games behind.

Liverpool was 7 points ahead end of 2018 and City went 18-0-1 for the 2nd half of the season.
But I would agree that this feels different and dropping 5 points in 5 games when the race was so tight does seem like a lot.
Pande is right however, 2 makeup games for the club world cup with the fixture congestion and the newly added winter break is going to make for an insane schedule in February - April.

last season with 10 games left Liverpool was 1 point ahead. then they went 9-1-0 the last 10 games, and got #2. :D

But yea Liverpool look as good at the start of this season as they were looking at the end of the last one. However looking at last season, they started off the first 20 games with a 17-3-0 then, too. I guess they are pretty amazingly hungry for a PL title, I mean imagine being Liverpool, not having won a single PL title, having a 97 point season and then still not getting the trophy..

It's also worth nothing that Liverpool doesn't have a depth that City does. The clear example was actually showcased last weekend when you compare the pre and post Firmino performance. But being Liverpool, I'm sure they'll have the EPL as their top priority this season.

Any idea who would be the ideal backup for Firmino? I'm still looking at Brandt because he's young and versatile and German players usually have decent work rate, but that's more of a hopeful guess than any solid profiling result.

Most false 9s I recognize are already past their prime or tied down to key roles in other world class teams (as may be the case with Brandt now too).

ideal backup would be Benzema imo, hes a perfect linkup player, Lacazette also seems to be that type of player as Arsenal is clueless when he is not playing

There is no player who is like Firminho in football now period. He drops into midfield to win the ball back more times than he wins it up front now and his touching and passing for Liverpool is crazy, rivals the best 10s out there. So yeah if they lose Firminho Liverpool are screwed as there is no one to replace him.

Oh since Benzema has turned back into a 9 he definitely is not as good as Firmino yes. But I think Lacazette could become as good as him if he finally solves his injury problems

Brandt has qualities similar to Firmino yes, but he won't settle for a backup role I think. Firmino can play at that level for at least another 3 years if he stays fit. So if you are looking for a backup you need to go for someone past his prime or a young up and comer. I agree though, losing Firmino would hurt Liverpool a lot.

Yeah. I was hoping Brandt might be able to flexible enough to fit into multiple roles to get sufficient playtime despite the solid front 3 Liverpool has. In Leverkusen he seemed to play all over the midfield and attacking roles, at least on the stats I saw.

I'm not sure how tough that is for a player though, it's probably easier to sit down and figure out one position rather than drifting around as a constant #2 pick for 3 or 4 different positions.

A situation like that sucks balls. Been there myself (obviously not as good ^^' ) Almost never got my preferred role, always backup for someone else because I was pretty versatile and could play decent as left/ right wing defender, wide midfielder and even left/ right winger (both feet strong, faster than 95% of my peers, always pushing for goals). This led me to switching clubs and ultimately quitting football for good because I was THAT unhappy.
