CL is really exciting this year. Even though Liverpool is clearly the best team in the world at the moment, it's still not given that they will even make it to the quarter finals, and aside from them, bayern dortmund psg city real barcelona juventus atletico (and maybe even a couple more) all seem reasonably evenly matched.

Munchen didn't have a good start to the season but it looks like they are coming good at the right time of year. Still it is only Chelsea and as much as I have been impressed with the Chelsea youth this season (I assumed Hazard leaving and the ban would have been more crushing) those things still happened. It is a step up from holding your ground in the top 4 of the Premier League to competing with the best in Europe and the size of that gap has been demonstrated by this game.

Also holding your ground in the top 4 in the premier league is quite a low bar this year. Everyone is struggling except Liverpool domestically in England. A theme that seems to continue across much of Europe as well. Big boys not looking as good as they should be.

Glad for Bayern, they played pretty damn good match. Boys deserves to get CL finals <3

Barcelona with 12 players for that match. The board's incompetence these last years is abysmal.

It wouldn't be that bad if they gave a chance to canteranos, you don't need 25 first team players. Guardiola didn't win with super deep squads. You need 15-16 top players and the rest can be youngsters. They have the 15-16 but none of the youngsters have more than a few minutes in copa or something

They’ve certainly mismanaged things.

I don’t think it’s an excuse for some of the failings of the Barca board, although the two Madrid clubs not really pushing them in La Liga hasn’t helped either.

That said I don’t think it’s entirely complacency either, they’ve splashed out big money but reinforcing in the wrong areas, or on players who haven’t worked out.

Lol that Chelsea game haha, well that was not a fun experience. How Lampard could get the tactics so wrong is baffling to me. Watching from my view in the stand yesterday i had perfect view of Bayerns set up, it literally was 4-2-4 with Thiago and Kimmich sat in the middle with Muller Lewa in the middle and Gnabry and Coman outwide pushing our fullbacks back, meaning a back 3 system is irrelevent. He should have seen this was gonna to happen as it is how Bayern play and even if he did not "expect them to do that" he should have switched way quicker. Our best period was when were 2-0 down and Pedro and Willian were throwing crosses in and we had a back 4.

I also don't like how he said we were vastly outmatch and that is where we need to be to compete with Europe's Elite as that is terrible. For a start like i mentioned he got the tactics wrong and secondly Bayern have had a poor season with us having top attacking players missing. He should not be starting Mount and Barkley in a champions league last 16 tie that is for sure they are two young (in mounts cast) and inexperienced (in barkleys case) to be having that kinda responsibility. Play Willian or something from the start, crazy naiavity from Lampard there.

The game was summed up on finishing which is Bayern's speciality this season, while they have been poor and have had injuries making them look even worse, they still have been scoring for fun. Lewandowski is in like the form of his life with the goals he has been banging in and everyone is still baffled how Gnarbry has turned himself into a top world class winger with how he showed up as a kid. But the goals they scored were always getting in behind us, cutting it back across goal for a tap in (2 of the 3 goals, the other goal a nice slip for Dave). We also had these chances (all be it at 3-0 down) to do the same but we never had anyone in the 6 yard box ready to tap it in, both Willian and Pedro gave us crosses like that as well as Reece James in the first half. The first goal was also a huge mistake because of a slip and we also had a huge chance to score in the second half when Mount was passed the ball too and Neuer was miles out of position, but he messed that up too.

So i can't say we were battered into outclassed 3-0 scoreline without making a fist of it. We had chances, we took 0 of them and Bayern had all be it more better chances and took the lot basically, minus Muller hitting the bar.

Bayern were Chelsea's worst possible opponents in terms of style, they are basically the same as Chelsea but with forwards who score goal. They have a sketchy back 4 and defensive play but play nice attacking football and score goals. We do that without scoring which is highlighted in that game.

Oh well, we can always remind ourselves of 2012 when Bayern is mentioned after this humiliating defeat, oh and we also in fairness beat a way better Bayern side in 2005 xD

Thats true, after seeing the game, a 1:5 would have been the more fair.

Real Madrid was 1-0 and then suddenly in only 10 minutes they received 2 goals and a red card for Ramos, lol.

Imagine if you had David Luiz still. 7-1 was not of the table (somewhat poetically)

Haha offt, that would not have been fun. Still watching from the stands and im sure Frank watching that back today from decent camera's would have saw many opportunities missed. When we were "doing good" per se at the start of the season we were playing a back 4 and attacking and just being weak at the back on conters...now we are still weak at back but play a back 5 and can't score for shit.....he should just go gung ho for rest of season imo and maybe force some goals into the teams.

Wasn’t David Luiz man of the match when Chelsea beat Bayern in the final all those years ago?

Finally could watch the Real City game, that was a good one. Very even with a slight advantage for City in the first half, then mostly City in the 2nd but they shoot themselves in the foot again and concede. I was like "not another one of those Pep games", and then boom. Deserved win, I hope they don't regret the 2-3 super clear attempts at the end.

I think it was maybe early for people to think Madrid could come back. They need more time to transition old players off and build the next generation. They're not playing bad, they did a good job in the first 60 minutes but they don't have that "power" they used to have to score goals anymore. Imo, the Madrid that won 4 CLs in 5 years wasn't that much better, they just were more clinical up front. Losing Ronaldo (and Marcelo :D) will do that to you I guess, and with Hazard injured and a golfing Bale you can't go too far.

That game sure came to life in the second half. It was really tight and tense. Man City looking more and more on top but with Madrid looking Real dangerous whenever they could get the ball. I look forward to the second leg. Man City looking good. But their defense is an issue and you can never count Real down and out.

Courtois was huge for Real, possible man of the match for me. City could easily have had more goals if not for him. Ederson pulled out one really good save too, although Vinicius should have scored the rebound

Everyone talking about Real vs City but what about Lyon vs Juve??!!?? Never did I think Lyon would win this, with a clean sheet even?

As far as I've understood, Juventus has been really dependend on the Ronaldo hotstreak for scoring.

Right now Juve still has all the tools to control and make it a 2-0 home game - but if Lyon gets the away goal, things start to get messy for sure. I guess it's a pretty similar situation in Liverpool - Atletico series too.
