Chicago committing to Mitchell Trubisky
Guess the Bears gave up on trading for Newton once Kyle Allen & Will Grier started playing like ass for Carolina.
Why would Jack Del Rio as DC make Trent Williams bat an eyebrow? Explain please.
There's a culture change taking place in Redskins park. On Monday, the Washington Redskins announced that they had fired longtime general manager and team president Bruce Allen. Team owner Dan Snyder released a lengthy statement explaining the decision, but he reportedly wasn't done there.
According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, the Redskins also fired longtime head athletic trainer Larry Hess. Hess just finished his 18th season with the Redskins and his ninth as the head athletic trainer. He previously served as the Redskins' director of rehabilitation after joining the franchise as a physical therapist and assistant trainer. While this staff won the Ed Block Training Staff of the Year Award in 2018, the Redskins have famously had problems with injuries over the past few seasons. Running back Derrius Guice, for example, has played in just five games in two seasons, and has had to undergo multiple surgeries in order to fix one ailment.
The firings of Allen and Hess appear to be connected, as both had drawn the ire of disgruntled star left tackle Trent Williams, who sat out the entire 2019 season. As CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported this offseason, Williams told his teammates that he demanded a trade or his release from the team due to their handling of a recent medical situation, and had vowed not to play for them again.
Back in April, Ian Rapoport reported that Williams had a growth on his head, and doctors were worried that it was a malignant tumor. The situation at one time "appeared to be very serious," but the growth was removed without issue and Williams was said to be fine.
He clearly was not fine, however.
Finlay reported that Williams said the growth popped up roughly six years ago and that the team declared it was minor. It ended up being classified as a rare form of cancer -- Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP). The fact that the Redskins' medical staff let this situation escalate led to his distrust of the team doctors.
Allen did not do anything to help soothe the situation, as he maintained throughout the year that he expected Williams to return to the fold at some point, although he admitted he had not kept an open dialogue with his best player.
While Williams had previously vowed not to play for the Redskins again, now that two of the people he reportedly had big issues with are gone, the seven-time Pro Bowler could change his tune. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins clearly thinks so, and reached out to Williams on Twitter following Washington's "Black Monday."
While I have some issues with the CF Rankings, especially at the top, I think it's harder to envision a better system. The inescapable problem, though, is that it is inherently a narrative driven process that sometimes forgoes pure evaluation. Unranked Texas' beheading of #11 Utah was a prime example of this. It wasn't an upset or anything. The teams just weren't ranked correctly.
Texas was just wildly inconsistent and at a certain point because theres so few data points in football you have to start ranking by record. Utah benefited from this by playing an extremely soft non-conference schedule and being in the weaker division of the PAC 12. They got beat by the 2 best teams on their schedule and beat no other teams with > 8 wins. But they won 11 games so they'll get ranked high by default for being in a major conference.
Texas on the other hand will play LSU and Oklahoma to the wire one week and then lose to bad TCU and mediocre ISU teams the next. They're clearly talented enough on their roster to be a top team but they were just all over the place this year so it's hard to justify keeping them ranked but they peaked at 9 themselves.
There's a clear divide atm imo where the Big 10/12/SEC are superior to the ACC/PAC12 on average outside of a couple of outliers. 8-4 teams in these conferences would probably be 10 win teams in the others, but with so few games a 10 win ACC team will still be ranked before an 8 win Big 10 team in a hypothetical scenario
If more conferences switch to the 9 game conference schedule too you're going to get even less data points to compare
Ravens looking to take the whole thing. Niners gonna choke.
Seattle are also contenders if they get their rhythm going.
Also Vikings gonna get completely smashed. MT gonna eviscerate our secondary. Only way I see us winning is in a huge shootout with another “Diggs” miracle play.

In this season Pederson has shown that he is at the very least least a top 15 coach in the NFL (I would argue top 10)
Pederson has shown himself a more akeen to coaching a system QB who buys into the playbook like Foles. Wentz can play outlines the lines and Penderson underlizes Wentz's ability. Do you think Penderson could get the same amount of production out of Mahomes as Reid Does? I dont think so but a coach like McCarthy could.
Yes Pederson is a good coach, but he would be better off coaching a more limited QB that will buy into his system like Baker Mayfield or Daniel Jones.

Primarily, I listen to Strong Opinion Sports, OJ Simpsons pilot podcast, and Pat McAfee. They are all former players with heaps of experience playing the game, from different generations of football. For a more mainstream take I listen to Cowherd. The articles i read i usually get straight from NFL.com and make an informed decision of what will happen.
"Pederson is a good coach but would be better off coaching a more limited QB"
Hoookay. **takes deep breath**
This is so wrong, its unbelievable. Wentz has proven that he is a dynamic QB who is able to thrive in Pederson's system. What basis do you have to say that it would be better for Pederson to coach a more limited QB? That is just utter nonsense.
I'm certain that your rebuttal is going to mention Nick Foles. The fact that Pederson was able to redesign his offense on the fly in 2017 to tailor it to Foles skills is NOT a reason to think that you should downgrade from Wentz just so that you can play a different system. Wentz offers a lot more than Foles does and you would be crazy not to move forward with him.
This narrative is just so ridiculous and I will not stand for it.
I'm not saying Pilly should downgrade from Wentz, im saying Philly should upgrade from Penderson. Since their SB run, they barely beat Mitchell Trubisky in the playoffs, and narrowly squeaked into the playoffs this year just to get annihilated by Carrol's Seahawks. When you have Wentz as a QB in his prime, sneaking into the playoffs inst good enough. Old man Brady got into the playoffs with less weapons than Wentz and no ability to scramble. Wentz has the arm and the ability to scramble that a Coach like Arians, McCarthy, etc could better utilize to its full potential than Penderson can. Yes, Penderson could win more games overall with a QB who knows his limitations and will follow his system. Thats not a knock against Penderson, its his niche.
You're kidding right? You really think Rivera is the best coach in the division? Doug Peterson has a ring, and dragged the lifeless corpse of the Eagles to the playoffs for the third straight year.
Rivera has been to a SB, coached a average QB to preform at an MVP level, and Won his division several times against Sean Payton and Drew Brees. Penderson has had and less difficult strenghth of schedule, and a better QB than Rivera ever had. In spite of that, Penderson has done less with Wentz than Rivera did with Newton and Rivera has more divisional wins in a more challenging division.
Wentz has had a very good year. Where do you have any support for the idea that he would be better off with a guy like Arians or McCarthy? Under Arians coaching, Jameis Winston threw for what, 30 interceptions this year? And don't we know Mike McCarthy as the guy who led his team to a generation of underachievement despite having a hall of fame quarterback at his disposal? Where is your evidence to support any of this?
And where in the world are you getting the idea that the Eagles should be looking to upgrade from Pederson? He's been the playoffs 3 out of his first 4 years, including a Super bowl win.

Honestly I'm kind of hoping for the Saints to blow us out and for Zimmer and Spielman to finally get fired.
The Vikings are consistently under-performing or otherwise just treading water in a sea of mediocrity. Spielman has fucked us up with his personnel decisions for the better part of a decade (chronic QB problems, a terrible O-line for years, questionable coaches) and Zimmer is a last generation coach playing last generation's football. He's questionable-at-best at motivating his players, has horrible clock management, and his defenses are overrated. He also plays conservative "don't lose" football that ends up losing and he also almost never takes any kind of risks (never tries fake punts/kicks, gets schooled every time an opponent tries one) or tries anything innovative. He's also routinely out-coached by pretty much everyone.
He’s an average, last-gen coach who doesn’t utilize his players’ talents when the situation calls for it (often plays way too safe). He lets Vikes go soft during our “favored match ups” (and we end up paying for it) and his biased relationship with Rhodes isn’t helping us this season either.
He’s not bad. But he’s not great either.
Our O-Line is improving. But we gotta work on our secondary. U can’t rely on our elite WRs to pick up the slack when the opposing team gets a TD every possession.
I digress, but I could go on and on about how incredibly average the results Vikings put out despite the talent on the roster.
Oh I’m just speaking hypothetically about getting rid of him. I don’t think Zimmer is going anywhere anytime soon. As long as Vikes makes playoffs every year (last year was on the OC), he’ll be with us for a long time.
He has room to improve and I think he can get to where we need him to be.
