Botas has a beard men!, he's pissed; who knows, maybe he won't take orders anymore.

He has publicly stated that he is not going to. He's as tired of being the sidekick as we are.

Well Ferrari must not like Australia at all, no way there was a note of power leading to around a 1 second advantage for Merc (slightly less). Nuts, well im happy, lets finally turn a quali 1st into a race 1st in Aussie land Lewis!

I think they won last year tho? Largely thanks to Bottas crashing in qualy but still. The near second difference is insane, but everyone else is even further back. Mercedes must have stumbled upon something that's giving them a ridiculous advantage somewhere.

Lewis had a 6 tenth gap last year then Ferrari were faster the next 3 races so it could just be Ferrari suck at Aus and Merc are good.

Some thoughts on the race.

Overall, pretty happy with how it went. 8/10 teams come away with points, so there will be a proper scrap in the midfield for points.

1. Bottas was absolutely on the ball this race.

2. Vettel and Hamilton got kinda screwed by strategy. Also heard something about Vettel having issues?

3. Gasly, Giovanazzi were definitely the worst drivers this race. Gasly was pretty much behind Kvyat all race in a faster car. Was behind on the first stint, Kvyat pitted and he just couldn't build a gap until Kvyat tried too hard to pass Stroll and bottled it. Came out just ahead and didn't cover Kvyat well enough, and just got stuck again.

Gio was pretty much just a moving chicane. Screwed up a couple people's races as they took longer to pass, but really he was so far off Raikonnen he was competing with the Williams.

4. Haas (Grosjean) with wheel issues in Australia again. That was the tire that didn't go on right too. I think they must've crossthreaded multiple times, and then when it went on straight the threads were already too damaged and eventually gave out like 20 laps later. Haas throws away a 5/6 which is just unfortunate.

Turns out Hamilton's floor was damaged for a large part of the race hence his slower pace compared to Bottas.

Giovinazzi got his car damaged from Ricciardo's silly accident and suffered the whole race because of it.

Well the positives from this race are that the F1 TV pro functioned very well (albeit on the replay as I was sleeping at the time of the race) and Max seemed legit in that RB.

Vettel and Ferrari looked very disapointing. Bottas showed that LH cant rest on the shoulders of the better car….but still, if this ends up being a fighting between Mercs, as much as it pains me, Hamilton has this in the bag.

On another note, just finished watching Netflix's drive to survive series. Very cool series for fans and newcomers alike. Its like an inside look into last season's antics. If you happen to like Danny Ricciardo and feel sketchy about RD, def watch the show lol (just a note that Ferrari and Mercedes refused to take part, so dont watch waiting to see anything from those teams).

That explains a lot, no reason he was that much slower than Valteri. Also the new kids this year look very promising.

I saw the Drive to survive F1 show appear on my netflix feed just last week, hesitated to watch it but gave it a go.
I joined TL's fantasy league right after, got hooked by the show and bought F1 2018; now following the results of the races.

Too expensive to watch the VODs in France for now though :/

Kubica's narrative this year is the same as last year Alonso's.

2 more weeks for Williams and Ferrari to improve. Bottas to win more please

The cost is really what keeps most potential fans from being able to enjoy the sport. The F1 youtube channel has the highlights of each practice, qualifier and race at least. It's the only way I had to follow the sport last season.

They usually show up there with acestreams when the race is going on, or replays after. Just make sure you have adblock on.

I'm hoping that Giovinazzi shows up. Sauber gave up Ericsson who, admittedly, was an average but reliable pay driver for him, so he needs to either be as consistent, or show some serious pace.

Pretty sad that Ferrari were employing team orders in the very first race, other than that it was quite dull. The new regs don't seem to have helped.
Max was good, I have a sneaky feeling he will be much closer to the title this year, maybe worth an outside bet because RB always develop the car quickly.

Thinking about it, I really think Ferrari should have let Leclerc past given that he had a 25+ second gap behind, and told him to pull a gap, pit for fresh tires and bang in a purple lap.

That gives them best of both worlds, Leclerc finishes behind Vettel, but they get an extra point for fastest lap but classic Ferrari strategists wouldn't do it.

I don't even think Ferrari had the pace to go for a purple lap.

Seems to be that Ferrari just do not work well in Australia, expect them to show their pace in the next race. They defo are not that far behind Mercedes at all and last year was similar for them as well. Oh its Bahrain next as well the power circuit, should see them back their.

Martin Brundle spoke about what he thinks the reasonings are behind it in his post race blog post he does on Sky Sports if anyone is interested.

Both Bahrain and Shanghai are power circuits, and have much more chances at overtaking than Albert Park as well.
