During this race I realized another negative about these PU's; Because of the slow cornering the tire deg is going to be much lower so there will be even more 1 stop races..

I hate literally everything about this. It's so incredibly convoluted. The cars get some acceleration on some parts of the track, and different on others, and different depending on the session, and even track to track. There's complicated starting procedures with automatic backup boost so people don't end up going too slow off the line. And at the end of the day, we're still going to get superclipping and artificial passes.

And not just this season I'm afraid. Next year there still will be a PU in the cars that uses the ICE to generate electricity so tracks with few slow corners will remain to be problematic. Hopefully they can improve the ICE at least so the power ratio can be adjusted a bit more but that's about it.

Such a bizarre situation.

Fun fact, Super Formula was faster than F1 at Suzuka this year. It's genuinely impressive how far F1 managed to fall in a single year. They somehow managed to demote themselves into no longer being the premiere racing series..

Something that really grinds my gears (heh) is the engineering side of things where people are defending the regs as if they are an engineering marvel and that it's important that F1 makes progress on a technical level when in fact the previous regulations were more advanced and most importantly: Actually relevant for possible use in road cars. These are clearly not.

I made a Reddit account just to inform people about this ICE as a generator ridiculousness but to even post in the F1 sub you apparently need karma that I obviously don't have. So if anyone here feels the need to let people know what's actually going on with these regs, that not only the racing side but the engineering side as well don't make any sense please do. It might help if more people know what the problem is and start using the right terms in the discussion.

To charge the battery the ICE is used as a generator. This is what's causing the super clipping in fast corners and at the end of straights, it is not at all new and interesting technology and will obviously never be used in road cars.

Apologies for repeating this point as much as I have but it bothers me people and media (!) aren't addressing the actual problem.

Eh, I think that's not unknown at all? I don't follow f1 much but even I know what super clipping is. And that it's rather dumb to have road cars ever doing that.

There are clearly a lot of people who do not know what exactly is going on but will still defend the new regulations because of "progress". Rarely I see people pointing out that the regs aren't just bad for racing but don't make sense on a engineering level as well. There isn't much media pointing out the actual culprit. When super clipping is explained I've rarely seen it been pointed out in the right terms, it's almost always very unspecific. Of course especially by broadcasters.

Try not to (unintentionally) mask it for instance by using the term "super clipping" when it's appropriate to just point out what this dumb PU is actually doing: Burning fuel to charge the battery leaving the rear axle less power than even the ICE alone can deliver, which already isn't a lot. Simply put: If people on (social) media call this stuff exactly what it really is, it gets harder for Crofty to avoid the culprit.

Well, that was an eventful race with not too much yoyo-ing. Hopefully the others can catch ~~the Mercedes~~ Kimi so we can have a close season.

E: Looking back there was too much yoyo-ing actually, just less than in previous races.

Not every day you see tarmac issues in a F1 race. Both Stroll and Leclerc got plagued by the same issue

I lost it when the FIA officials managed to pull the tarmac out with their bare hands
