Good attacking race it felt like but for me watching Lewis become the most successful driver around Silverstone was special!

Starting to think Vettel should look into retiring. He has lost any ability to actually race in that car. Every time he's remotely under pressure from another driver, he fucks up in some way. He either spins, drives off the track, or runs into them, completely ruining the race for himself in the process.

I can't see any reason why Lewis would go to Ferrari. Why would he go from by far the fastest team to the nr.2 team with tons of communication issues? It's not like they can compete with the salary either. He's probably going to stay at Merc for the remaining 1-3 seasons before he retires.
Max actually has a clause in his contract that states that Red Bull is required to give him a championship winning car. They haven't so far, so he could move on to other teams. On the other hand he does seem to fit right in at Red Bull, so I honestly don't foresee him moving around any time soon either.
If Vettel leaves, I think the most reasonable thing would be to reinstate Kimi. But Ferrari hasn't shown a lot of "reason" lately, so who knows.

Ferrari makes mistakes that would never had happened back then when they were winning championships. Uncharacteristic mistakes too, like forgetting Leclerc during safety car phase for example.
I dont like Vettel that much but I must say, he kind of lost his mojo at the moment, he usually is a good driver. There must be something in the background at Ferrari that makes him not performing as he can, and I dont mean the poor car.

I don't think Lewis will leave Merc while they are giving him a car he can win championships in either, but their dominance is more fragile than people think looking at results. Last year Ferrari had a better car than Merc and for various reasons failed to deliver. If I was picking drivers for Ferrari I'd be after Max, he would be cheaper than Lewis and will be at the top of F1 much longer. Would Max leave RB though looking at how fast Honda are developing and the fact that RB generally have had the best chassis for 10 years. Difficult choice that. No chance Ferrari would go back for Kimi, he isn't good enough.
Seb has always been great leading from the front but throw him in a high pressure situation and he can crack. That sounds like I'm being critical of him but I'm not. It's very fine margins and easily done.

It's not like anyone here thinks they can do better. These are, for the most part, the best drivers in the world. So when we're critical it isn't because we think they suck, it's just that they aren't as good as the sport requires them to be. Vettel is obviously a ridiculously fast driver, but for whatever reason he keeps doing mistakes in that car, especially under pressure. And it's stupid mistakes too, mistakes that world champions shouldn't be making. Notice how many dumb mistakes Lewis is doing that are costing him races; none. Meanwhile it's every other race with Vettel, and it's been like that for several seasons. It shows to me that he has peaked and is ready for retirement. He still has a very good legacy, so it's nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes you just grow old.
But it's true that Ferrari doesn't really have anyone to replace him with. Kimi is old too. He's not buckling under pressure like Vettel (And he showed the kids some exceptionally good defence in Austria), but he's not world champion quick either. He's a really good nr 2 driver imo, which might be what Leclerc needs. Other than him, there's not really anyone else to choose from. Young Schumacher is going to need a few more seasons of testing and proving himself before they'll let him have a go (Which they almost assuredly will, based on the name alone).
Maybe they'll do a left field and hire Ricciardo or something. He proved he can rub elbows with the quickest while at Red Bull, and he's a charismatic guy to boot.

Absolutely. I've noticed this for a while now. Those Red Bulls are not breaking down whatsoever, can take massive hits, and they can race close without overheating too, unlike, say, Mercedes. I don't know what magic those engineers are using, but man is it working.

Lewis isnt going to retire anytime soon and probably wont leave Merc until he has 92 wins and the 7 titles but they could be the end of next year.
Why would he want to go to Ferrari? Because it's Ferrari and if he could get an 8th championship at Ferrari and before anyone else got a championship for them post Kimi then it would probably give him an untouchable legacy.
Why would Ferrari want Lewis? Because its Lewis Hamilton, huge brand and they know he can deliver championships even if the car isn't dominant and if they have Lewis then they dont have to fight against him either.

RedBull being built like a tank cooling-wise is unsurprising to me. Their car is relatively weak in qualifying compared to the other two top teams. Not quite as much of a party mode, so they're built to follow in dirty/hotter air better as they are less likely to have a front row start.
As for the build quality, I don't think even redbull designs them to take a hit, just down to luck, as even wheel on wheel can pretty easily break suspensions. In both Austria and here, Max took relatively large hits without any race ending-issues. Meanwhile both Haas barely touch, double DNF with punctures.
I could definitely see Seb retiring if his state of mind isn't right at the end of the season. He still has his world champion speed, but his racecraft has gone into the gutter since Hockenheim last year. There's just too much desperation in his wheel-to-wheel racing at the moment, as if he has to prove himself every race. In Austria he squeezed Norris super hard on entry for absolutely no reason, as he would've easily breezed by the Mclaren who wasn't going to fight it.
No idea who would replace him though. Lewis is not going to leave mercedes probably, Max if free would probably choose mercedes over a ferrari seat. After that you're looking at Ricciardo, who could probably do it, but he's not quite at the Max/Lewis tier of driver IMO.
Kimi is too old. He's a solid #2 driver, and is good for a constructors and for solid points for any midfield team, but I don't see the hunger any more for a championship driver.

It's just a badge. Racing drivers see past this badge nonsense. Ferrari is slower than Merc, and they won't be able to outpay them for their drivers. Lewis has zero reasons to change.
He has talked about retiring several times. It's likely that he will only continue for another 1-3 seasons, depending on how well he does. If Mercedes is no longer on top after the 2021 regulation changes, he will in all likelihood retire.
