Football-wise it's obviously not as good.

Very good that Bundesliga is eliminated. Germans are very stubborn in realizing that change is necessary. Now with the National Team past its prime and club football in shambles again, everyone should realize that It is time to rebuild. Maybe we can be competitive again in 5 years. Bayern will be at the top again earlier than that, I assume.

I agree with Malinor, German football is at a serious low level right now. It also shows in the league imo. Bayern prolly have one of the worst years since end of van Gaal times and still they will win the Bundesliga again this year.

What an amazing day. Travel 2x 450km to an away game on a wednesday evening with pisspoor weather and get fucked by an alcoholic referee in the 20th minute. Meanwhile everyone in direct contention with us to stay in the league gets points... that guy will never be able to ref a match in Braunschweig ever
Anyways... how was the CL? Bayern deservedly out?
|
Yes, both based on the entire season and on both games against Liverpool, they looked like they could compete at times but I never felt like they were truly the better team tonight. The only really impressive Bundeslgia team currently is Frankfurt and while they are incredible for where you would expect them to be, they are nowhere close to being a sure thing tomorrow. It is well deserved that they are all out of the CL, but I don't see it changing anything.
This also would have applied to Spain btw. if Barca had lost tonight, all 3 big teams there have looked equally unconvincing at times. Tho it is fun that the PL can only shine now that spains golden age is over, Italy fizzled out after a good last year and the bundesliga is just selfdestructing

Copa America 2020 will be Argentina/Colombia.
Argentina + Colombia, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
Conmebol doesn't know the South American map

That makes no sense... Well, it is not worse than next Eurocup from Bilbao to Baku.

it makes perfect sense in that every football association, all they care about is money. so who cares who is actually hosting or how far

The air travel (bird fly) shortest distance between Argentina and Colombia is 4,885 km= 3,035 miles.
If you travel with an airplane (which has average speed of 560 miles) from Argentina to Colombia, It takes 5.42 hours to arrive.

As for the Euro, that kinda makes sense as an anniversary edition.
Bilbao - Baku is the maximum, and there have been similar maximum distances in the Russia (or Brazil, or US) World Cups, whereas Argentina and Colombia are on opposite sides of a considerably larger continent. The minimum and average distances are probably more interesting. The minimum distance between Argentina and Colombia is about 2300km (Jujuy to Leticia) as the crow flies, and average is probably Bs As - Bogotá, which is what mAKiTO calculated. It is nonsensical to have this combination.

Bayern didn't score a goal in 180 mins. Somebody should tell them you can't win CL this way xD

Nowhere else you're getting so many top tier games as in PL between the top 6. For example PSG can only dream of regular high pressure games and it probably affected the way the things went vs ManU.

07/08 slippy John Terry in moscow 08/09 INIESTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 18/19 What tragedy will befall Chelsea this time? Not being good enough for CL anymore clearly counts as last season

The PL really looks impressive this year. Great achievement for all 4 Teams to reach the round of last 8. I wish they could ever translate their European Club success into the National Team. Sadly they always seem to struggle with the National Team. On a second thought though, the key players for the PL Teams are probably not english...

it's not clear that the very best team is in England this season, might well be that Barcelona and Juventus are stronger than city/Liverpool. (I think it's very evenly matched tbh.)
But overall, it does look like the pendulum has shifted back from Spanish dominance to PL being the overall strongest league. Spain dominated something like 10/11 until last season, last season england was back getting most coefficient points, and they're gonna do that by a significant margin this season too.
