No clue though why Löw made it so final that they are gone. They are not that old and (for example like Müller currently) might still regain some of their form. Also it's not like we have that many CBs currently or options in the offensive. Need one injury on Süle or Rüdiger and Löw will probably have to reinstate one of Boateng/Hummels. Alas I'm happy that Löw isn't just going for the status quo again. Let's see how it plays out Müller, Hummels and Boateng all are used to being key figures and known to be leading figures in the national team. So i think its either including them in your starting eleven or cutting them from the squad. Having them on the bench or including them only for some games in the squad will create endless discussions in the media and probaly a bad atmosphere in the dressing room as they will act like leading players but they wont be accepted as such. And i can understand the decision to exclude them. Müller needs a very special role in a system as he is bad on the wing and cant be used as a real striker. He plays more of a "hybrid role". Adapting your system for a player that is struggling (only 5 liga goals this season and his last goal for the national team was in 2017) is probaly not worth it. Plus germany has plents of youngstars for the wings (sane, gnabry, Brandt, even someone like Draxler is only 25) Hummels and Boateng are in a difficult position. Even in Munich nowadays at center back its more Süle plus one of Boateng/Hummels. There are rumours that one of them or even both will leave in the summer. So for the national team Süle will most likely have one spot save. Then you add Rüdiger, Tah, Mustafi, Kehrer, Stark and a few other promosing talents that are in a age where they need every minute on the field they can get. Those players will only get better while the trend for both of the bayern guys is downwards. As others have pointed out this is the perfect time for a big change and it probaly gives Löw more time in his job. Obviously he has been critizised ever since the WC. Mainly for the bad performance but also for not including enough young players and sticking to old palyers for too long. So this is probally his way of saying "look im willing to commit to giving these gtuys a chance but you might have to live with a few not optimal results" | ||
