Durant with a rib injury... That's a rough injury to deal with. Not much medical staff can do and it's so tightly linked to the core it affects almost everything an athlete does. From breathing to even just lifting their arms...

Had a bruised rib once and I was in serious pain for 4 weeks, with lingering pain for 4 weeks after that.

Meanwhile Raptors tied for second best record in the league and 2-0 against Houston... Golden State is scary because they can actually defend. But with all of their injuries... Could be the year the stars align!!
Teamwork is awesome... As long as your team is doing all the work!

Daylight savings time just happened... and OKC plays Toronto in a 1pm EDT game.
If i were OKC management i'd be pretty pissed ... its like they are playing an 11 AM game.

Allegedly , this is the play that caused the injury.
+ Show Spoiler +

it doesn't look that bad.. but if they say its an incomplete fracture.. then it is. any how, he tried to play with that injury and aggravated it in the next game

I guess since I watch NBA more than NCAABB I find that guy's "revelations" pretty boring and just an indictment against people who think that NCAA coaching is better than what kids would get in, say, the G-League.

why is "revelations" in quotes? I don't think he ever says that or I would have found it funny.

And I don't watch any college BBQ BB (not this or any game this tourney) but I still found a lot of it interesting. Mostly the stuff about how college BB is ran though so /shrug. It was pretty dam long though so props if you read it all.

it feels like the Cavs have gone through a dozen point guards this year... its been clear all year they don't want Calderon at point guard.
however, it looks to me like their offense runs best with Calderon at point guard.

I put "revelations" in quotes because its all stuff that is super obvious. Like, U of I accidentally stumbled into a good team in 2006 or so because they discovered that playing 2 point guards who could shoot 3s made them win more.

I never understood why they got Calderon in the first place. Specially after they got rid of Irving, I thought they needed someone who could run their offense more and be more dynamic off the bench (he works really slow now). He can really shoot it/stretch it though and if LBJ is running that offense mostly I can buy that.

i got off my lazy ass and looked it up.

https://stats.nba.com/lineups/advanced/?CF=TEAM_ABBREVIATION*E*CLE&Season=2017-18&SeasonType=Regular Season&sort=OFF_RATING&dir=1

the Cavs aer 17-8 with Calderon starting at Point Guard. LBJ magically becomes decent "off ball" with Calderon at the point. I hear complaints LBJ can't play "off ball" ... but when Calderon is running things LBJ looks good to me... i mean the whole offense looks good.... and now that i looked it up.. the #s back it up.

the 2 choices at this point seem to be either Hill or Calderon and their pace of play is about the same at ~96. So Calderon might look slow.. but they both move the offense at the same pace.

as far as "dynamic" goes... i'd say that relative to the Cavs choices that Calderon is "effective".

I think Cleveland should start Calderon for a while and try to outscore their opponents. Ya his defense is weaker than Hill ... but their offense is deadly. Also, I kinda like this Hill/Calderon double PG line up. They are both pretty big PGs.

Like clutz, I mostly watch the NBA. But I do watch a few NCAA games every March since I like picking brackets. This stuff is very easy to see for any NBA fan that's just a little more than casual. Read any article from the likes of Zach Lowe and you can figure this stuff out.

NCAA coverage is a hagiography about college coaches. It's not analytical nor logical at all.

I'll give an example. You know how the announcers frequently mention that this or that well coached college team forces teams to defend them for 20-25 seconds? If you watch enough NBA, it's very easy to see that those college teams are mindlessly moving the ball around the perimeter for most of those 20-25 seconds. It's nonsensical side to side shit that doesn't break down opposing defenses at all. There's no way this style of play will tire out any NBA team since it's obvious to any professional that they are just running meaningless actions without trying to score. The pros will simply not tire themselves out jumping at every meaningless action. But college fans will always point to this as evidence that college players are playing harder than pros. The pros know better than to respond to useless shit that doesn't do anything.

Yet the main thing I got out of it is how college teams/programs haven't followed 'super'obvious trends as well as they could (not the things I already knew).

I appreciated the specific examples he gave on specific players and programs. He clearly follows college bball closely and in this case works closely with CBB, and I do neither of those. It's ok if you don't agree though (spec if you watched the game or ncaab unlike me), not knocking you or w/e..

Calderon is still a decent playmaker but Chicago is making him look like John Stockton tonight.

The biggest benefit to playing Calderon is that he doesn't turn the ball over much, which is really important with the Cavs attrocious D.

He's always been a pretty reliable PG, but you get what you get with him. A decent PG who knows how to play, can nail a shot here and there, and doesn't give up lazy turnovers.

Calderon has always been slightly underrated aside from like 1 year where I feel like people thought he was a top PG. The fact is that he plays a position that you actually want to minimize on your salary cap, and does it fairly well.

That said, if he is a keystone of your team, that is no bueno.

Had Calderon and Garbajosa not played for Spain every summer.. and if Garbajosa didn't have that gruesome ankle injury the Raptors could've had a long 2007 playoff run. It woulda been pretty cool. As it was Garbo and Calderon played every summer and ran out of gas every April.

oh well.
