Yeah there are no exceptions here, Spain is my number 5 and Belgium 6 I would put in Argentina and Portugal as dark horses because of their x factors. I also dont think Portugal will be as ass as they were at the Euro, many of their young players have had some chances to mature and are better now. Ofcourse whether they get it together is another thing. then its maybe a block of like Colombia, Uruguay, Poland, Sweden(?) and after that I havent a clue. Edit: Iceland im going with Iceland for no 13, just because Vikings chants are awesome.

Oh sorry for some reason I though that 4 included England, not sure why I would do that, perhaps some sort of confirmation reading bias perhaps. Yes I rate England at 4. My boy Harry Kane, is gonna make it happen this year. Ive been pretty dismissive (just like everyone else and rightly so) in the past but for some reason i have a weird gut feel.

Neymar has informed his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates he will not return to the club after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, according to a report from AS (h/t MailOnline's Jeorge Bird). The Madrid-based newspaper has covered Neymar's potential transfer to Real Madrid at length, and this is yet another indication the Brazilian is ready to move on. Sergio Gomez of AS on Thursday passed on reports from French daily Liberation that stated Neymar Sr. had met with agent Pini Zahavi in Paris. Fernando Kallas of the same outlet also reported PSG set a €260 million (£227 million) price tag after paying €222 million (£194 million) for Neymar over the summer. Source

Ive been pretty dismissive (just like everyone else and rightly so) in the past but for some reason i have a weird gut feel. I was actually going to call you out on rating Spain below France (I'm ignoring the England thing haha), but while typing I have to be honest. My gut feeling tells me Spain are going to disappoint. I want to rate them higher but yeah Germany, France and Brazil are my top 3. All three pretty much interchangeable depending on form and luck of the draw I feel. England and Argentina are my dark horses, Southgate has England playing vile but effective football and Argentina have Messi. Portugal are less reliant on Ronaldo these days I think, but sadly for them Ronaldo himself isn't up to task anymore I think. Still considering the person I wouldn't say this is too far-fetched.

Its actually Petersen instead of Wagner! :D Pretty much all predictions had Werner/Gomez/Wagner as strikers for the extended squad, with a chance of one being scratched for the final squad... But Petersen basically took Wagners slot here. No Götze is sad for story reasons, but honestly, with the midfielders brought there... He won't be missed. And who of all those wingers will be scratched? That's an insane amount of quality there. The defense is lacking though, imho. There are 4 scratches to be done... Neuer, if he doesn't recover, otherwise Trapp as nobody brings 4 goalies... This leaves 3: - Ginter or Plattenhardt or Tah - 2 out of: Rudy, Petersen or a Winger (most likely Reus gets injured just in time anyway, to make this decision easier)

Only Madrid newspapers are reporting this, and when you know how much crap they serve all year long, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't just an attempt from them to create some tension between Paris and Neymar just to make it more of a possibility.

Plattenhardt is a 26yo Fullback from Hertha BSC and his nomination is a symptom of the incredible weakness the German team has on this position. He is pretty average in almost every regard, but has a number of appearances in all German youth national teams simply for the reason of him being one of the few Fullbacks we have. Pretty sure Löw will want to play Hector (who isn't really outstanding either, but still a must have in every fantasy competition because he always plays...)+Kimmich at every opportunity and hope to never have to field the likes of Plattenhardt or Ginter. --- Petersen is the more interesting one. He is actually the German striker with the most goals in the last Bundesliga season and 2nd overall. With 15 goals (including 5 pens)! LOL! (Lewa got first with 29). Then again, his team Freiburg, barely dodged demotion, and scored only 32 in total. And he just stood there and converted all the few chances they ever created. Still, he is 29 and has never been nominated for the German national team, except once. During the Olympics 2016 he received one of the over-23 nominations, and most considered this more like a "Thank you" or acknowledgement nomination. But suddenly he scored 6 there in 6 games there. So basically he never played on a good team, but on the trash teams he just converts whatever he gets lately. And looks like Jogi wants to see what he really got. And if he doesn't like it (enough), he just scratches him and never looks back. Also there is an additional view angle you have to consider. Jogi is all about team chemistry. And he needs backups who accept being a backup. Werner is the clear #1 striker we have. His speed will make everyone consider if they really push their defense up. Gomez is the tower you put in the opponents box if you want to beat them with crosses when they park deep. Now there is Wagner and Petersen as a third striker. Wagner, who doesn't get tired to tell everyone that he is the best German striker. Even if he should have learned some patience in his time at Bayern, you can be sure, that every day 50 journalists will try to poke him to say something stupid. And his temper will deliver. There is no way anyone could poke Petersen. There is no way he could ever bitch about being the #3 striker. He is Jogis wet dream of a backup.

There are still 4 people in there who wont make the final squad, one of them a goalkeeper; I guess either Neuer or Trapp. Then probably one defender (Tah/Süle/Rüdiger) and one midfielder (Brandt/Goretzka/Gündogan); with the last guys being an unfortunate key player getting injured (Reus/Kroos/Özil).

In the season finale of "Narcos: Portuguese football edition" Porto won the championship two weeks ago and Benfica took the 2nd place from sporting when sporting lost in the Madeira vs the local team Maritimo. Earlier today Sporting was accused of buying referees in handball during last season with proofs taken from whatsapp conversations. The handball team will most likely lose the championship and be demoted to the 2nd division. Since this was not enough, just two hours ago 50 hooded sporting supporters (allegedly managed by sporting president) entered the sporting training facilities and transformed it into a war zone. They broke Bas Dost head in two places, and physically assaulted multiple players and technical staff. The players are most likely filing for the termination of their contract. At least is what's everyone talking at the moment. Keep tuned for more in the second part of this season finale
