Only one in my opinion. The first hand ball I think could've been given, but the others are kinda weak.

The 2nd one after which Forsberg got the yellow was a pretty clear one imo. No hard shot. Decent distance away. Arm blocking the shot pretty clearly. In my opinion all 3 situations were pens. The 2 handballs as well as the foul on Parolo.

then he calls a handball for the first time when it wasn't one instead of giving a pen

Had to re-check, but I mixed them up. I actually meant that one, I can see that one given. Darmian is whatever, close distance and the ball gets poked onto his hand. The Parolo one I need another look and I can't find a gif, did not look like a penalty to me at all. I think the ref is having a shit game, but these penalty calls have not been much to me.

Ugh as much as a german has to love no Italy in final tournament, Buffon retiring on a qualifying loss is kinda heartbreaking.

Hooray for Sweden! Now hoping for Denmark to win against Ireland, and then I'll really be able to enjoy the WC vicariously through the success of our scandinordic brethren.

First world cup since 1958 without the Italians
Feel so sorry for Buffon, he said he was retiring after this world cup now he ends on that loss

How much odds on Zlatan coming out of retirement for the world cup?

He stated just a couple days ago that he wouldn't. Zlatan generally seems like a guy who cares about standing by his word, and in a way it'd be a bit fucked by him to go like 'fuck this im done with international games' and then be like 'oh but guys I wanna play the world cup so come on make some room'.

So I'd be very surprised tbh.

Why so many Italians anti-fans? D:

Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Brazil and Argentina should always be in World Cup!

Inside a packed New York City courtroom, and under heightened security on Monday, US prosecutors accused three former South American football administrators of taking millions of dollars in bribes as part of a web of endemic corruption at the heart of the sport’s governing body, Fifa.

José Maria Marin, the 85-year-old former head of Brazil’s football federation, Juan Ángel Napout, the 59-year-old Paraguayan who was president of South American football’s governing body Conmebol, and Manuel Burga the 60-year-old former president of the Peruvian football federation, have denied multiple counts of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.

Their trial is the first in a sprawling federal corruption investigation of Fifa that was announced in May 2015 after several officials were arrested during a morning raid on a hotel in Zurich. Since then over 40 officials and marketing executives have been charged by US authorities with 23 already pleading guilty.

As the defendants looked on, Marin staring ahead, Burga with his head in his hand and Napout appearing to take frantic notes, assistant US attorney Keith Edelman pointed to each of the men and told the jury: “These defendants cheated the sport in order to benefit themselves.” He added that they “did it year after year, tournament after tournament, bribe after bribe.”

The trial will focus on how marketing and sponsorship rights were sold for two major South American tournaments, the Copa América and the Copa Libertadores, as well as the Brazilian domestic tournament Copa do Brasil. The officials are accused of regularly taking six figure bribes.

During his opening remarks, Edelman singled out an event in May 2014 in Miami, Florida, where Fifa officials had gathered to announce a special centennial expansion of the Copa América, which would be held in the United States for the first time.

“By all appearances it’s a proud moment in the history of the game,” Edleman told the jury. “There are drinks, press conferences but underneath the surface are lies, greed, corruption. Some of these officials had other reasons to celebrate, they had agreed to receive millions of dollars in bribes regarding the tournament.”

Edelman said the US government would present evidence, derived from witness testimony, bank records, covert recordings and other documentation that proves each of the officials had received bribes. Marin, Edelman said, had received “millions into a US bank account”. Napout, the prosecutor alleged, had received his money in cash, sometimes “over $100,000 at a time”, whereas Marin, who had been the subject of a domestic corruption investigation, had told a middleman to “hold onto the money until the coast was clear”.

In each of their openings defense attorneys did not deny there has been corruption at Fifa, but said their clients were not part of it. They accused the US government of relying on the testimony of Fifa officials who had already pled guilty and cooperated with authorities in order to reduce their own sentences.

They've been pretty terrible the previous two world cups, but in the euro 2016 they knocked out spain and lost to germany in a penalty shootout. Italy always has the potential to be dangerous in a tournament even if they field an unimpressive looking team. It's just also a shocker seeing as they've been part of the previous like, 13 world cups or whatever.

Netherlands are definitely the biggest fail. IIRC Italy was in Spain's group. So 2nd place was to be expected. And Sweden just had better performances than Italy

This is the worst Swedish team i can ever think of. There best player is Linedlof who doesn't even get on Yanited's bench now because he is actually awful. Other than its Forsberg who is average at best!

Italian team has Belotti/Immobile/ElSharaway and the best defenders consistancy wise in the last decade! To round it off they have Buffon who is just sheer class. Oh and Veratti plus DeRossi midfield isn't exactly medicore is it! Main issue is they played like trash in Sweden and lost 1-0 then at home they had like 27 shots! 27! Not one goal, that is madness. The manager is bad, he is the reason for this. Like said Conte had a weaker forward line (was literally just Eder!) in euro 2016 and beat Spain, and took world champions Germany to the brink. This guy Venture took Italy to being unable to score in a 2 legged tie vs Sweden who take away there 8-0 win were also poor in a group which has the worst Netherlands team in decades xD
