Wasn't a great performance from Jon at all and it was his first split decision in his career

Doubt Santos gets the immediate rematch after they're both healthy

Oh he'll get pressured into it, just gotta hope Santos gets healthy quick (didn't look good tho). Not sure how serious Jones' injury is.

He expands on this ALOT in the post fight presser.

He also says something that I've been saying since the Conor Khabib fight.
Why do people get to talk shit unrestricted before a fight but after they are expected to forgive and forget all of it? Some people don't want you talking shit about their family/religion/manhood or whatever and they ain't gonna just let it be afterwards.

He actually comes across really smart (even though he's arrogant af). I like the guy.

lmfao, saw this on twitter and damn.

Soooo true though, people talk all sorts of shit thinking they only have to worry about staying within the law to avoid consequences. Appreciate Masvidal reminding them eventually they're gunna say the wrong thing to the wrong person and pay for it.

Side note and no disrespect in case I come across him in a whole foods (lol) but is his kid's name Macho Man? That's gotta be a nickname right?

The JJ last night couldn't last a round vs old JJ let alone would have a chance if DC would be willing to give him the nth chance for a fiar fight. As far as I'm concerned JJ has never beat DC.

And you laughed at me when I called Santos! He almost had him with his power!

good call on that one. jones was so afraid of santos last night.

this is an exaggeration ... but it felt like Jones was backing up behind a jab and at the same time employing a philly shell defense. so afraid of getting head hunted.

Over the last two years, Herb Den has gone from my favorite ref to Mario Y. levels.

When I think back to all the early stoppages and all the fights we were robbed of, it seems like it's disproportionately his fault.

A rookie mistake like in GdR vs Ladd shouldn't be happening when they are title contender bouts. Very very disappointing.

honestly aspen looked slow and dazed at that moment
sure it could’ve went on a bit more but there was a window where gdr wouldve landed solid shots

If every fight was judged like this, a knockdown wouldn't even exist, since the fight would just be called. Absolutely she was dazed, but at no point did she go out, she was momentarily on her 4's before laying on her back with her legs towards her opponent.

If the fighter doesn't go out, and unless the fighter is eating long series of punches without intelligently defending, fights like that shouldn't be stopped. I've read on the internet "well most likely it just wouldve been more of that, so I'm fine that they stopped it". But then we might as run simulations for all our sports rather than having them play out.

I think it's more or less fine having two extra punches, as in Ben Askren's case, than have these situations happen. They aren't nearly as damaging as people make them out to be, it's just a unconscious opponent vs one that is awake. Justin Gaethje eats 30 of those every fight, if not a bit stronger (since you have a sturdier base to punch from). And that's like the worst case scenario of what happens from ending a fight a couple punches late.

Don't even get me started on calling choke submissions too early. 3-5 extra seconds of holding a choke will not give anyone brain damage, it makes absolutely no sense to have questionable calls like Ben vs Robbie or Chiesa vs Lee. Particularly if it's not putting a lot of pressure on the neck, like a RNC or triangle. Joint locks are a different situation, and those are more difficult to call right.

this is different than just a typical knockdown, she got a follow up wind-up uppercut and aspen just looked stunned, herb saw the uppercut and prob saw aspen not even trying to cover herself and decided to stop it. it was an early stoppage, but aspen was effed lol

and ye no point in calling off rncs

Yup, I just meant that it's in the fighters hands, and not really the referee. So there's an option to be too tough for your own good, and have that famous forearm break in arm bar (Frank Mir fight I think), shoulder dislocations from kimuras, or career ending leg locks.

Maybe it's a little hypocritical to expect higher profile fights to be called a little later than ones that few are watching, but it's kind of what I'd expect. And honestly, I rarely see the fighters speak out about the late stoppages after the fact (I know there's an element of them not wanting to look weak), but I think they do see it as not much additional damage. More so it's some fans of the sport speaking out against it. Even in extreme cases when Valentina vs Priscila, both fighters were content that the fight wasn't stopped too early. Mario told her if she doesn't move, the fight will be stopped, she had many outs in that fight.

Overall, I think the reffing in UFC is quite good, it's just a small adjustment that should be made. It's in the referees self interest to stop the fight a little bit early than late, because the backlash for stopping it early isn't as loud (more people voicing quiter concerns), versus a late stoppage, some people start shouting safety of fighters, and it seems more serious... Both they don't analyse it enough to see that the safety of the fighters isn't endangered than much.

I appreciate stuff like Bisping calling out an early stoppage, and fighters like Masvidal and Ben both being onboard with their stoppage. It normalizes it for the audience a bit, sometimes the sport can be brutal, but we are watching people try to knock each other out, so it's just a part of the game. Overregulating the sport will hurt it in the long term (I watch F1 for example, and I think they suffer a lot from it)... So stick to the roots, stick to what made it popular in the first place, and like Masvidal said, it's not for everyone, there's always a soccer game you can go watch instead haha.

Just want to add that I think the UFC is a surpringly safe sport for what it is. It's probably the fact that you have around 2 times per year where you're subject to such intense damage. Football and hockey players have it a lot worse imo, and even sports like cycling, you have like 20% of the peleton breaking collar bones, fracturing ribs, etc. every year. Even tennis there are a lot of muscle tears and players are out for 6-12 months, quite similar to MMA and their surgeries. In MMA most veterans are pretty well spoken, there's some sad stories like Chuck Lidell, but overall its a small percentage, so it's hard to say how much of that is from CTE. When some tennis players are interviewed you'd think they have CTE too. In team sports it's less noticeable, since the more we'll spoken athletes on the teams tend to do interviews... Aaand because MMA fighters I think on average tend to have a lower IQ when they start fighting (no offense meant to anyone, lots of indirect evidence supports it though), it's not really fair comparing a golfers brain to an MMA fighters.
