Because he was more instrumental to the success of his club this year than Neymar. It's closer now than the past few years, but Messi was still the absolute best this year.

Neymar has been the best this last three months, after Messi injuries. But Messi was the best the first six years of the year and he was the best in Barcelona Champions League and treble. For me, Messi is the clear winner of ballon d'or.
I remember last year Messi first match against Manchester City in Champions League. If you watch that match Messi seemed like he was playing alone against kids.

Suarez was also more instrumental to Barça's success last season than Neymar. Neymar was good but not as good as the first half of this season. People who vote for the Ballon d'Or are always too influenced by what happens between August and December. And games during that period almost don't matter for top teams.
Messi was easily the best; he won everything with his club and went to the final of the Copa America. I don't think Neymar can win the Ballon d'Or as long as he is in Messi's team. The team will always play for Messi, Neymar can only really shine if he's the leader.

But no bro, hes more popular than Neymar, so its obvious he is going to win it. Obviously the performances dont matter. Just like when Ronnie wins it. Tapins and Penalties all the way to being crowned best player in the world

It's the first half year that makes him deserve it, the one where all the trophies are handed out.
How about wrecking Manchester City, wrecking Bayern, great in the final against Juve, wrecking Athletic in Copa del Rey. Early 2105, Messi was playing as dominantly as anyone I've ever seen at the top level.

why is someone other than messi/ronaldo winning the balon dor an 'impossible' feat? ronaldo is starting to show signs of decline and messi will do the same in a few years. when the eventual new winner comes it wont be impossible at all, rather the expected outcome
|
impossible like in their prime, ie the last 8 years (and since messi is younger, maybe another 2-3 years for him?). of course eventually they'll be too old to win
|
by the time neymar, suarez or anyone else wins the balon dor messi and ronaldo will both be well past their prime. although tbh i think messi would probably keep winning it until he retires just because hes messi

Or one of Xavi / Iniesta in 2010 after winning Wordcup when they were in the top 3 final.

At least for Neuer I understand why he's never really on the list to win. He;s a keeper after all ^^.

Well sometimes the popularity contest does actually award the best player (like 3 of Messi's wins) but others it's a complete joke indeed. The Cannavaro one stands out for me.

Well, for me it was Xavi the best. But Sneijder was incredible too. I would have not mind either of them winning it. Messi victory was a joke. (Anyway, I think he deserves his other 3, and this year too)

According to Marca, the Daily Mail says Hazard has decided to leave Chelsea this summer. Zidane wants him for RM and the player likes it. Chelsea prices him at 90m pounds. PSG also interested.

According to The Telegraph who have the best Chelsea sources. Hazard will "make up his mind" when the next manager is appointed, until then is still happy at Chelsea (now Mourinho has gone i assume)
Nothing happens with that until the Summer anyway, and even if Hazard goes super sayian again im pretty happy to take 100million for him especially if its to PSG and Real who you will rarely play vs.

Ballon d'or is such a joke i dont even know how we end up on this subject all the time. Cannavaro 2006 and Sneijder 2010 are perfect examples. That being said, I find it hard to think that anyone other than messi is gona win this one.

So they stopped over rating performances in the worldcup, back in the day they would have given it to him based on like 5 games ?
Messi being ahead of Neuer was debatable but Ronaldo deserved it. Its not like the deserving winner hasnt won it. So I dont see the logic behind the griping. Besides the monstrous stats on their own are enough to put them in the top 2. There is no real argument against cold hard stats He also half carried his team to the final whereas Neuers WC team was pretty stacked and there was little room for standouts. Even a guy like Lahm couldve been in the discussion based on WC performance. Dude was killer solid.
Sneider deserved 2010 though. That one I will concede was an unfair pass. but hardly "less than the dirt under your shoes". I think you overvalue your shoe dirt even by metaphorical standards.
