A national tournament isnt high quality anyway so most people didnt even watch it here in north America or southern/ east asia CL finals all the bars are jam packed. Same for league games. Copa America half the country didnt even know it was today. You're right, Copa America doesn't mean much, but he failed to be the same Messi during the World Cup as well(he was still damn good, though). Also neutrals on a club level can still be fans of players. Now, if you're a crazy Cristiano Ronaldo fan you're probably not going to care that much if Messi plays well or badly as long as Cristiano plays better. He's still the best player I've watched by FAR and he's mesmerizing to watch whenever he plays for Barcelona and some(few)times when he plays for Argentina(he scored an amazing goal on Brazil during a friendly), and he's definitely the best player ever, but I have my doubts about whether or not he's the GOAT. But that's a discussion that has been done to death, and like I said I'm not sure if he is - or isn't - the GOAT so I don't think it's a good choice to go down that road.

The fact is that Messi hasn't been able to step up and be as good for Argentina as he is for Barca. There are a bajillion different reasons for this, but it's just the truth, and it means that there will always be holes in the "Messi = GOAT" argument until he does otherwise.
