so if Aldo pulls out for any reason now.. Mcgregor has (x) days to prep for Mendes ? LOL.

I think any other fighter would've done the right thing and decide to take care of their rib. I really hope it doesn't affect Aldo's performance, especially since he's had quite a few injuries in the past. I guess he figures he can't back out now, because while McGregor has dished out quite a bit of smack-talk, Aldo himself has also been talking tough, saying that, at the weigh-ins, if McGregor does anything, or talks trash, that Aldo plans to 'do something'. I wanna see it!

And please, God, please, don't let this be a wash where someone rolls over their own ankle or something stupid and the fight has to be stopped for some bullshit.

Following a review of the scans, it has been determined that the champion suffered a bone bruise to his rib and cartilage injury during training.

Still I do have the feeling that Aldo is not going to fight. Plus, I wouldn't want McGregor to fight an injured Aldo either. And the reason why I wouldn't is because of the whole shit storm it would raise. It would be like the Anderson vs Chael fight all over again. People would be saying that the only reason the other fighter was dominant was because the champ was injured. Mind you in Andersons case he won his fight, but they still said that the only reason Chael was able to dominate him the way he did in the first four and half rounds was because of Andersons rib injury. So IF McGregor were to beat an Aldo with a rib injury people would play the same card, at least that's what I see happening IF it played out that way.

once money is involved "the right thing" becomes a moral ambiguity.

if the most i've ever fought for is say $200,000 and i'm 28 and i have a chance to make $3.5 million in 1 night ... i'll just fight hurt.

the legislation that didn't get past in NY included a new 8.5% ticket tax on pro wrestling events.
therefore, i'm surprised it didn't get through.
how often does any government drag its feet at the chance of adding a new tax revenue stream?

in other news.

if this change sticks it will make it even harder for guys like Mcgregor who are too big for their weight class to pull off a successful weight cut...
no idea how they are going to police this though... r they going to follow the guy around after he makes weight including washroom visits?

Dana was emphatic that it was Aldo v. Mcgregor.

White did state that Mendes will be present at teh weigh-ins and ready at 145 lbs just in case anything goes wrong.

might take some time to get used to not having (UFC) fighters covered in sponsor advertisements... wonder at what point someone gets a promotional tattoo :D
The change is good on a company business level. Hopefully it works out well for fighters too.

While I don't mind Aldo pulling out and having Mendes fight McGregor, why did they make it an interim fight...? In the situation that Mendes wins, that means he MUST fight Aldo again, which I don't see a point of. He's already lost twice to Aldo, and if he beats McGregor and fights Aldo again, he'd only be one fight removed from fighting Aldo again...

It's like a Cerrone/Henderson and Rampage/Wanderlei situation. There's no need for a rubber match between Aldo and Mendes, as exciting as the second fight was.

I guess I just have to hope for McGregor to win, or if Mendes wins, he fights Frankie Edgar before Aldo returns, and Edgar must win.

the goal is to have mcgoat win so he can call himself a champ or w/e
the 2nd fight wasn't exactly one sided.. so although its 0-2 i wouldn't mind seeing a third fight

e: also they can still call it a 2 title fight card; they're not gonna move mcdonald/lawlor into headline and move mcgregor down after all this
