I agree he wasn't trying to block it with his hand specfically. He was diving to block it in genral and it hit his hand which was right next to his body.

Scoreboard journalism. They just picked a period of the season where they were performing poorly. Afaik both Messi and Neymar have around 10 goals each and a bunch of assists (without looking up the stats).
