The best way to solve this would be to create a League with Clubs from Spain, Catalunya, Basque Country (They'll eventually ask for independence if Catalunya's bid go trough) and Portugal.

You would put Benfica, Porto and Sporting on the spanish league, which with the Revenue from La Liga Tv Rights would be instant contenders for the 3rd place in that league.

Porto is already preparing for that since their team is all spanish now

Just make an Iberian peninsula league.

Alternatively we could have a ranking system like tennis and have clubs join the tournaments they pick around the world. Maybe that would be more exciting than the current system?

Barcelona playing in the cold and rain every single away match all year and actually having competitive matches in their domestic league? B-b-b-but that would kill the beautiful game! Would somebody please think about the well being of Messi's goal-scoring statistics!

I think Messi would score even more goals in the PL ;o

Yeah it is only Barcelona fans who think Messi would score more outside of Spain. We will never ever know so it is just a pointless discussion. However it is only Barcelona fans who think this XD

But in la liga 19 teams park the bus against Barça and in the PL only like.. half would do that. Difference in money is less in the PL so they would think they want to make the game exciting as well. PL is the most exciting league in the world for a reason. That would result in Messi getting way more space to work with than what he's used to, i.e. more goals.

It's moot anyway though. He won't join the PL because he'll stay at Barça, and his goal-scoring record streaks are over with him becoming more and more like a playmaker instead of a goal-scorer.

Yeah he said numerous times he is never leaving Barcelona as long as they want him, so it will never happen.

Im pretty sure everyone would park the bus vs Barcelona if they were in premier league. Outside of Barcelona though it would be like Argentina all over again where he just isn't as effective? Not sure would be cool if we could actually see this, but won't happen

Like Ronaldo, do you think he is a better player at Real than when he was at Yanited?

I didn't watch Ronaldo much at United, but he was pretty young there afaik but supporting cast being better and him himself being better matters a lot I guess.

And Messi's been on the receiving end of Pepe numerous times (with him stomping on him when he's down etc.). Also the argument that Barça would get kicked the shit out of them in PL is just untrue. That happens in La Liga as well, but it's heard to kick someone when the ball is already away. They're literally too late to kick someone down because of the instant passing.

And I don't think teams like Arsenal, Spurs, Southampton, Swansea etc. would park the bus against Barça but actually hold true to their style. It's the best way to beat them anyway, play like you're used to, fight them off with your own weapons instead of some concocted ones.

Would be cool to find out, the only best way is via the Champions League. Lets hope for a Chelsea vs Barcelona this year, haven't had one of those in a while

On Ronaldo i don't think he has got "that much better" personally, like you say though his supporting cast are arguably way better, but the Yanited team he was in back in the day was pretty good. I just think if he came back as well he wouldn't be scoring much more than 20 league goals a season.

Costa also scored 27 goals in Liga last year, let's see how well he does in PL this year. And yeah it would be cool to find out! Chelsea vs Barcelona is not a good way to find out of course considering there will be an average of 0.5 goals scored per match or whatever.

Chelsea just defend vs Barca and hit them on the counters or from set pieces. Would be no different, it is just the way we counter Barcelona's system. Would be fun for it to happen again though :D

Costa also scored 27 goals in Liga last year, let's see how well he does in PL this year. And yeah it would be cool to find out! Chelsea vs Barcelona is not a good way to find out of course considering there will be an average of 0.5 goals scored per match or whatever.

Indeed, lets see how close he comes to that at the end of the season. I'd be happy if he scores 20/21 league goals.

You say average of 0.5 goals as if it is a bad thing
Chelsea just defend vs Barca and hit them on the counters or from set pieces. Would be no different, it is just the way we counter Barcelona's system. Would be fun for it to happen again though :D

Suarez missed about the same amount of games beginning of last season right? First 7 or so?

Played 33 league games, scored 31 league goals.

different teams play players differently so it's not like goals made by particular player in different leagues indicates much about the defensive ability of teams in those leagues.

I think barcelona (and real) would drop more points in the PL because there are less teams you can get away with having an off day against, and every team has off days, but I still think either team would have won PL any of the previous 3 seasons. They've just been more stacked on talent than the top PL teams.. Maybe not this season though, chelsea just looks like such a complete team.

.....how do these things even happen

Well, when you go flipping about on a hard surface, you're putting your health at risk. You mentioned Nani. Imagine him slipping up just a little bit and BAM, son, you're dead. Doesn't help that he was probably really tired, too. Those celebrations are nice to see, but they do come with an inherent risk.

Barca wouldn't be as good in PL imo cause they would get the shit kicked out of em

Literally, imagine what Charlie Adam from stoke would do to Messi rofl. OUCH

For what it's worth, I think Ronaldo now is a much better player than he was at United.

And Messi would score more goals in any other league except PL. PL stronk.
