Yeah Southampton looking much better than I expected. A hard thought win for Liverpool. Liverpool’s season could go either way for me. There still a lot of quality there but losing Suaez is such a big loss.

Said to scouse friends at half time that they would win 2-1. It's same old Liverpool but with less goals. Suarez playing that is 3-1 or 4-2 game.
They bought Lovren in to help secure up the back 4 but it hasn't do much yet in game 1.

Still, ANYONE would take any kind of win game 1 of a season lol, it's always hard so they will feel they did enough.

I think Lovren, Skrtel and Manquillo looked like a solid defence in the making, they were let down heavily by Johnson though. Lucas failed hard a few times aswell.

So glad to finally get the season going, and as you said, it doesn´t really matter how you get those first three points. Very good second half performance by Southampton, but the game changed totally when Lambert entered the field. His presence occupied the defenders and suddenly them redmen found their passes and link ups offensively. Plus Sturridge is so frickin good at scoring clutch goals.

Wait until Markovic is Fit! Liverpool With Coutinho, Markovic and Sterling behind Sturidge with henderson and gerard backing them up.

It will be awesome!

All in All, the ideal Liverpool team is the team that played today but with Markovic instead of Lucas, and Moreno Instead of Johnson. And i'm still missing Lallana

I think Coutinho will play as the more offensive player in a three man midfield when all players are available.

Really liking some of these players from Newcastle, Aarons and Cabella really are sparks of life with the way they play the game. Ayoze Perez had a nice chance but not seen much of him and Rivierie looks like he might need a bit of time. But still, Newcastle look like it might be a tough game again.

Newcastle have been playing with so much passion and commitment that was lacking from the entire second half of last season last year. That should please their fans a bit. I don't like seeing Alan Pardew getting grief from the Newcastle fans. I think he does a good job and the truth is probably just that Newcastle aren't as bigger club as their fans want them to be any more. Though saying that they had a disastrous second half the season last year, so the hate wasn't entirely un-justified.

A packed St James park is always going to have atmosphere.

^ Thats a ridiculous attempt at a story from the Mirror and fair play to Luke Shaw for calling them on it.

the end of last season was atrocious but overall I think pardew has done a decent job with the players and transfer funds he's had available to him. maybe a bit crazy on the french but oh well.
