Houston gave up a first round pick as well tho. Lakers gave cash and rights to a player that probably wont even play in the NBA and they get an expiring contract. Pretty good for the Lakers since they don't care for a little money.

I'm with you Ace. WTF is up with Lakers not getting Thomas at that price and then doing this other kind of shit...I looked at him as a good Plan B at that price and it seemed he wanted to come here. They better not have thought that was too much.

yea the league has this weird bias against short players even when they put up insane productivity. Even worse when you can get him for CHEAP. Lakers and Miami both blew it. Sacramento is of course, dumb as always.

Do the Lakers even want to commit to anyone at this point? Seems like Melo was their only pitch and if it doesn't work they rebuild, get picks and prepare capspace for the future.

Yea Lakers are going to have clear space for 2016 FA. They are just treading water for now without trying to sign any big contracts. They haven't even been seriously courting anyone except "stars".

Makes sense to me.

Melo was the only FA star available in this off-season that we had any real chance of grabbing. The Kobe contract extension had a lot of us thinking that Mitch's game plan was for 2016 this whole time, the way the pieces are moving this year seems to confirm that.

It's sad since it's kind of wasting Kobes last good years but it seems like the best course. I don't think Lance Stevenson or Isaiah Thomas would get the Lakers past the likes of OKC or Spurs.

Side note:

- I'd pay money to have seen Riley's face when he heard the news. He was so cocky and sure Lebron would come back.

- How is Blatt supposed to coach Lebron? First time coach with the best player in the world. I'm interested in how that dynamic will play out.

Edit: Also, apparently the Spurs have moved the the front of the list for Gasol, alongside Chicago. I'd love to see Gasol in a Spurs uniform
