They can afford to pay a player to sit in the press box with an uninsured contract and the replacement play that the freed up cap space provides. The salary cap hits are the only thing that matter and trading away a 5.5 cap hit player to a team for a 0 cap hit player is a sweet deal. Plus you get Nathan Horton for later. Not a bad consolation prize to be honest. The leafs win this trade. edit: turns out the Horton injury is career threatening? Eh. Still fine for the leafs The only reason CLB made the deal is because they knew Horton would never play again. The problem with Marchant is get gets a few calls he doesn't deserve and refs let some shit go on him because of his reputation. That being said, he earned his reputation so now he gets to live with it!\

Yandle's one of the more underrated dmen. I'm not crazy about getting rid of Duke (I wouldn't call him elite but he's a good prospect) but Yandle's a great puck moving defensemen going to a team that doesn't have many of those. Plus the Rangers got Arizona to pay half his salary so he only costs 2.5m for the next two years, and his contract expires the same year as Boyle. I think it's a good all in move. A lot of the key players are over 30 now. They might be able to rebuild on younger guys but they'v got at least 2 more peak years out of Hank and Nash.

I don't know much about Yandle, but Duclair was supposed to be a future star, he just hasn't been able to stick on the team due to his age, he's only 19 if I recall. I really hope that Yandle can push for time on the second line. Dan Boyle has been a third line defenseman at best this year. At a bare minimum, Yandle has to be at least an improvement over Moore in terms of scoring.

Given that Franzen is probably LTIR for who knows how long, it's not a bad move, considering the Wings didn't really give up anything important. I certainly hope the kids do better this year in the playoffs, as they got manhandled pretty badly last year by the Bruins, and it's nice to get some veteran depth so long as you don't overpay.

Idk I liked Duke but I thought he was more second line player max than a star. Zuccerrllo also resigned 4/18. Good deal

I wonder if that's the last big deal this year! That petry deal is alright. I always thought of his as a third pairing dude, so the price seems a little high to me, but he apparently has top 4 numbers this year on a very bad team e: I just realized that the lightning got 2 2nds for Brett Connolly, who was a former first but hasn't shown a ton I nthe NHL. That's a pretty good haul (esp since the Lightning have killed it in the draft the past few years). And they paid a pretty penny for Coburn but I also think Coburn's been really underrated. But that's the kind of move you can make when you're a top 3 team in the east that has a bunch of good young prospects
