The first rounder is also going to be whatever one is lowest. So Buffalo still has there McDavid lottery ticket. The STL and NYI ones aint gonna be very high lol

As much as I think he's overrated and destined to be a 40-50pt dude, they turned Stafford into Kane, who still is only 23 I think. I think most would argue that Bogosian is at least a top 4 dman and an upgrade on myers or at worst a lateral move.

Personally I do think Winnipeg will win since they got two middle of the pack prospects and a 1st on top of that for a guy that 100% wanted out everyone knew it. They got a top 9 forward in Stafford so that helps short term too. I just really don't see Kane as ever evolving into a true 1st liner.

They should flip Bogosian to the Red Wings for a pair of second rounders.

To Q-Hawk: Why, the guy played on two shit teams and now on the third. Its like Yakupov is ruined forever and will run away to the KHL if they ever go back to paying in dollars instead of toilet paper but if he ended up on the Red Wings he would be a premier, 75 point guy like Tatar and Nyquist are on the way to becoming.

Thats the same thing with McDavid, some teams just act like a factor of talent building -- look at the Preds and their d-men factory -- and some teams are just there to ruin young players forever -- Edmonton first and foremost.

I dont really buy that players are ruined forever. That's silly. I find that it is usually they really were never good to begin with, or the team never really built up a supporting cast. fwiw Yak just reminds me a lot of zherdev

Ya except Yak was a competent player in the OHL before Edmonton destroyed him. Some players are just ruined forever, although some teams -- like Detroit -- could probably recycle him into a competent 65 point guy and teach him how to play the entire ice surface like all of their other forwards not named Dan Cleary. But after the hell of edmonton, he is probably psychologically pretty broken.

Evander Kane trade is really difficult to call at this point. My initial feeling is that Buffalo really won this trade, as Myers just ain't that great and Bogosian doesn't carry that contract. Drew Stafford is a heart-and-soul guy, but really quite replaceable. That late first rounder probably saves them future cap space as much as anything. The wild-card is the two prospects going to WPG, who could turn out to be quality middle 6 guys.

With most trades, the team who gets the superstar is almost always the winner. I think in this case E. Kane will show how horribly misunderstood and under appreciated he was in Winnipeg. He's a real threat to score 30+ goals, and drives possession forward quite well, and is young and on a decent contract. Buffalo will probably win this trade barring a fantastic development from the prospects sent to Winnipeg.

Buffalo has way too much cap space, they should be hoarding first rounders since it's very likely they'll be in the same position next year anyways, might as well develop hard since this year's prospect pools is supposed to be deep. Kane isn't a first liner and Bogosian can at max play top-4 but Stafford and Myers aren't that great anyways so the player trade is really even, I just don't understand trading away the prospects and first round pick for a goalie prospect, makes no sense in my opinion because I don't think Kane has proven the skills to be a first liner, which is what you'd expect if you were trading prospects like that (unless you were going full playoffs mode...). So confusing.

Apparently it was Buffalo GM's first player for player trade so it may be understandable he has no idea what he's doing.

it's pretty apparent by what they gave up that buffalo views Kane as someone who is going to have a lot more 30g years. if he's anything less than that it's a bust really

Yea it's about the same. I forgot about the Bogosian extension; the cap hits are basically a wash.

Yeah those are some tough deals to move. Teams want the players but most teams are at or near the cap so its hard to add. The physical dollars matter very little (yeah some teams care). Torontos only trade partners are gonna end up being teams with a large contract that is ending otherwise there rebuild will be slowed considerably
