Morin's trade request seems to have everyone beating on that drum again about players like Carcillo stealing roster spots from players like Morin. It's a pretty silly discussion though. For starters, Carcillo is not a Colton Orr type player who literally has punching and no other skills. Carcillo's a little shit stirring sparkplug who plays at least pasasble enough defense that he's not a massive liability out there in limited 4th line minutes.

Morin was drafted to be a top 9 player. For pretty much all teams, the fourth exists to suck up all those zone starts in your own end and giving your skill guys a breather. The #1 priority for fourth liners is don't get beat in your own end. Offense is icing on the cake. If Q can't trust Morin on the fourth, and he can't outproduce Carcillo when playing there, and he can't earn a spot in the top 9, he's gonna sit.

Obviously, the ideal solution would be to just send him back down to the A to grow more with actual skill players, but he'd have to pass waivers now. So he's in a shitty limbo spot and his value definitely took a dive due to his play thus far.

Well I think the one thing against him is that he really hasn't proven that he's capable of consistently playing in the top 9 just yet. He put up some pints last year, but then got benched in the playoffs iirc. So basically his value in a trade is just pure potential

Morin is honestly one of those guys that will either benefit from a change in scenery or confirm that he doesn't have the potential that everyone thinks he has. He's been very lackluster for CHI this year and it has nothing to do with Carcillo "taking his spot". Hell Carcillo has been pretty damn impressive this year showing that he actually has some offensive skills and proving to the fans here why exactly the team leaders wanted management to bring him back. I will admit that CHI is absolutely stacked on the top9 but thats not all or the problems with Morin. He hasnt performed or done anything positive really in his time here and the lack of ice time is a result. Hes been given chances and hasnt done anything with them like Shaw or Saad did. Hell even Carcillo who people would argue has very little going for him in terms of hockey skill has taken shifts on the top line with Toews and Hossa. Morin just isnt fulfilling the picture that CHI had for him and its probably for the better he gets traded

Klein's been really good this year for the Rangers. Good possession numbers and his scoring is way up. Zuccarello's possession numbers are really good again despite facing better competition this year, even though his scoring is down a bit. I wonder how much of him facing tougher minutes has opened up space for Nash. Nash's possession numbers are kind of meh. I wonder if that's a product of his style or what

Stars need to fire Ruff and get a new coach who understands how to coach defense. This is fucking disgusting. And Lehtonon needs to ride the pine for a month or two.

Ruff's such a weird coach. Those 05 and 06 Buffalo teams were monsters, and then he had some pretty good ones a couple years after that. Everything after that was a huge disaster.

Yeah Sheahan, Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, etc. have been impressing for the Wings. Nyquist is our leading scorer with 14 (8 on the power play).

The team is so inconsistent though. They outshot the Leafs 40-16 on Wednesday night and still lost. Probably had 8-9 one on ones with the goalie, never scored any of them. And now they've lost twice at home in two weeks to the Panthers. Let's hope they can get it together against the Leafs tomorrow.

I wouldnt say per se that its inconsistent and more that its defense is still weak. The major difference from last year is that they dont have a bunch of old men -- except for Franzen who really should be bought out at this point, he literally is a momentum killing shadow of himself -- slowing things down so they play with speed, keeping pressure of their defenders and wearing the other team down. On the other hand if they are getting forechecked into the ground, the bottom 4 crumples -- which is what happened most of the time last year. The reality is they are a mid level playoff team but without a miracle run by Howard they will get stomppted by a team with a decent second line that can force Erickson/Quincey/Smith to think on their feet -- because they cant.

Losing to Florida/Leafs the way they do, through shoot out is ok because Howard is the worst shoot out goalie in the world and playoffs dont have skill competitions. The real challenge is keeping Datsyuk/Zetterberg healthy and figuring out a way how to get another real defender. Maybe if some team is dumb enough to take Franzen then even better.

Every time the camera pans to Eakins hes standing still being all like quite, idol and invisible. Every other coach is always saying things, yelling across the bench and 'coaching'.

Fasth was super pissed he got pulled tonight. I would love to know what he was yelling across the bench and if it was directed at the coach. Fasth has got to be sitting dead last in the NHL in goal support. They don't score when he plays and allow a ton of shots.
