Teams are owned by the fans basically, they are literally clubs, where due paying members pay fees and can vote in chairmen. Sponsors are allowed minority ownership, but 50% +1 of a club is owned by the fans. The league also viciously controls for debt spending -- every year teams have to actually forward their financials to the league and technically the league can reject your play that year (obviously impossible since there is no tiered system) for being too indebted.

Interesting. Your right, never in a million years would that ever fly in NA. Though while the Oilers were owned by the Edmonton investors Group it kinda sorta was like that for them. Couldn't spend into debt, lots of people with vote rights on the board and dozens of minority owners. Worked pretty decently.

I wonder if MTL is dumb enough to let him go to it. They'd be nuts to not get him for like 8x8 or something. He will make crazy bank if they don't take him past UFA age, or if they let the arbitrator give him 2 years and walk.

Yea they reallllllyyyyyy have to get that deal done before he goes to arbitration. I'd hope he might settle for around 7.5ish just because he does like playing in Montreal so perhaps he'd give us a slight discount so we have some more cap space to work with when Galchenyuk and Gallaghers entry level runs out.

Bozak/Kessel/JVR Lupul/Kadri/Clarkson(RW)? Komarov(C)/Ashton(RW)/Orr(RW) Holland(C)/Booth(LW)/Frattin(RW) I actually don't mind the fourth line, except that Booth might not be happy playing there. The third line is weird and Lupul/Kadri need to play with an actual RW, though might be nice having Clarkson there to make sure no one takes a cheap shot at Lupul again. iunno

Leafs got Gardiner, 5yr/20m. Pretty good deal. Also, Subban's arbitration numbers came out. He's only asking $8.5. The Habs submitted... 5.25. lol. 8.5 is low if it's long term. He's got two years RFA left, so they'd be buying those. 8-8.5 in just 4-5 years is going to be undervalued for a top dman.
