Anyone think Russia has a chance against the Americans? I cant imagine them pulling anything off unless Varly goes into beast mode AND quick goes into retard mode.

If Russia wins its 5-4 or something. They have alot of deadly snipers that can pick away at the worlds best goalies. I cannt wait for that game for this exact reason. It's gonna be a shooting gallery!

My prediction is 5-2 USA.

Suter is amazing, and you have lots of defensively responsible forwards, like Pavelski and Brown, so I wouldn't be too worried about Russia's offense.

I think USA will start with Miller in goal. It would be ridiculous to not give him a chance to prove himself considering how great he has played for Buffalo, and considering the season Quick has had. He knows the russian players better too, since most of their big guns play or did play (Kovalchuk) on the east coast.

I too, at least based on the first games and also the way the Russians were actually playing, think the US will beat Russia. Which offers the intriguing possibility that Russia gets beat out by Finland for the top 4 finish (USA,Can,Sweden to win their groups and then Finland with the superior goals) which might mean Russia runs into Canada or the US early and gets eliminated before the medal round.

It may be the brain damage from watching Leafs regular seasons, but call me crazy in that I don't think Putin and some money would allow Russia to exit before the medal rounds... I can already see a lot of bad calls going against Russia's opposition.

I get the feeling the prettiest goal of the tourney will come from this Czech Latvia game. Both sides are more interested in dancing around the opponent then dump and chase or making good passes

i remember in 2002 when Sweden thoroughly dominated Canada and less then a week later got knocked out by Belarus.

so its a good idea not to read to much into any one game.
