Tbh I had expectations that the east would be quite interesting this year. Everyone had high hopes for the Bulls, Derrick rose looked great in the pre season, but come the real thing he looked well off and now he's gone and the bulls will just be a feisty, undermanned team again. I thought the Knicks would slide, but not worst in the east type slide.... The Nets I had some expectations for...Pierce and Garnett are old, but they still have Lopez, Williams, Joe Johnson and got a decent bench as well, Stealing Kirlenko for nothing etc But they've had a ton of injuries and are just horrific overall.
It may still be interesting though, to see who out of all these awful teams ends up with the worst record and most ping pong balls in the lottery. Kinda pissed the celtics are actually 4th in the east atm, they need to tank it up.

Did the majority of the teams in that conference decide to check out while Lebron and co. are teamed up? Is the draft class so amazing that teams are competing to lose instead of competing to win? This conference right now is a disgrace to any competitive sport. Has it ever been this bad before? Its was supposed to be a top heavy conference coming into the season. Basically, smart people expected it to be Miami/Indiana/Chicago as the only potential 45+ win teams (probably all 50+). Chicago started slowly (expected), and Rose is now done for the season. The Knicks and Nets also have faced injury troubles, along with being terribly constructed teams (particularly for the regular season when it comes to the Nets), so you get a bunch of quite trashy teams. Additionally, they haven't had a surprise team (probably because nearly all the top draft picks in the last few years, in which the East was also pretty bad, have been terrible).
Its hardly a conspiracy, instead its years of bad drafting (and bad draft classes). The Top 5 picks in the last 5 years have been: 2013: Bennet, Oladipo, Porter, Zeller, Len (Only Len in the West, all mediocre) 2012: Davis (W), Kidd-Gilchrist, Beal, Waiters, Robinson (W) Special Note, Lillard went to Portland @ 6 2011: Irvine (always injured), Williams(W), Canter, Thompson, Valanasdgasdgasf (w). Leonard @15 to SA 2010: Wall, Turner, Favors, Johnson(W), Cousins (W) Note George @10 To Indy 2009: Griffin (W), Thabeet (W), Harden (W), Evans (W), Rubio (W) Note Curry @ 7 to Golden State
So, it has been years in the making this weak season for the East. 2008 is hardly better, Rose/Hibbert are the good East Players (1 injured, 1 indy), while the west has Love, Westbrook. The fact is it just goes back in time where the East keeps having to overpay for talent, and most of the Young(ish) talent was consolidated in Miami/Indiana/Chicago. Boston and Atlanta were the other legacy teams but were broken up.
Meanwhile, the West has the Spurs, Thunder, Clips, and Warriors with enough young/legacy talent to stay contending, along with surprise Portland, revamped (properly, unlike NY/Brooklyn) Houston, and old-but-not-broken-up-like-boston Dallas/Memphis teams.
TDLR? The East has been terrible for years, suffered a few important injuries, and there hasn't been a strong enough draft class for it to restock in quite some time.

The hilarious thing about the East right now is that of the three teams currently at the bottom of the conference. NONE OF THEM are actually tank teams. Boston and Philadelphia are actually 8th and 9th in the conference right now. The teams below them are either trying to rebuild or had aspirations of making serious playoff runs this year. That's how bad the Eastern Conference is that the teams TRYING to tank are actually borderline playoff teams.

I think the draft is so deep that a lot of projected late first rounders wouldve gone top 10 in this years draft. The only real loser is NY whos tanking for other teams right now. Nothing new for knicks fans I guess.

Didn't the Nets also give their picks to Boston as part of the Pierce/Garnett deal?

Knicks @ Nets on Thursday. Really excited to see that game. Airing on TNT and Comedy Central iirc.
So disappointed in Kidd sending Frank off the bench. Seems like a really immature way to handle the situation and doesn't reflect well on his ability to lead a team from the sideline.

The Lakers would be 3rd place in that conference.
God, this joke is going to be a season long one.

The East has been the weaker conference for around 15 years now. They were terrible during the Shaq-Kobe Lakers era and the early Duncan era. They morphed into a 2-3 team conference after that with their best team being able to trade championships with the west champion. The rest of the conference was still horrible, however.
East GMs just seem to be terrible at drafting and trading. The west is better at finding gems later on and developing cohesive teams around their top players. It doesn't help that 3 of the good East picks of the last 15 years are now playing together in Miami.

GS only missed maybe 6 shots in the quarter and got 5 offensive boards without conceding any at their own end (where the raptors were missing a lot).

The Pelicans are gonna finish the season .500 or better and be last place in their division and probably two spots out of the eight seed.
The fucking west is a nightmare. Seriously, just look at the southwest division and realize how insane it is.

Plus D12 is to the West. But yea, it has very little to do with tanking (IMO) and just a lot to do with the conference having sustained badness.

I suppose that depends on who you ask. I find most people from the Northwest to be quite charming. There has only been ONE Texan in my entire life, a Black man from San Antonio that I've ever gotten along with. Big Spurs guy that one, lots of nice smack talk we've had over the last few years.
