BBallBreakdown had a good video on them. Matthews is playing waaay above his level right now (dude is shooting 51% from 3) but LMA is below his so it kind of evens out. Last year they were a heavy 3pt shooting team, but they just weren't making them. Now they are. Their defense is mediocre at best, yet they're #2 in opponent 3pt %. It might not be because they're actually good at 3pt defense, it just might be the teams they've played so far. Their transition offense is #2 in the league, but they aren't great at defensive rebounding, blocks or steals, which is normally how you get transition points. Most of it is just that they take a ton of pullup 3's in transition, so they don't really need as much of a head start as a normal transition team would. Their transition defense is also very good, but as a top offensive rebounding team, it might just be an anomaly. As the season moves on, they'll have to deal with teams adjusting to their 3pt shooting (especially in transition), their shooting %'s normalizing and fatigue from playing their starters so much. At this point, I think it's pre-mature to call them a contender. Weak bench and poor defensive scheme will hold them back, especially as some of the shooting comes back to earth. I think I'd still put them in front of the mess of the Rockets, but I think I'd still take OKC, Spurs and Clips. I will say the Rose Garden or w/e it's called now is a damn tough place to play. | ||

Did the majority of the teams in that conference decide to check out while Lebron and co. are teamed up? Is the draft class so amazing that teams are competing to lose instead of competing to win? This conference right now is a disgrace to any competitive sport. Has it ever been this bad before? | ||

basically the teams that want to tank are tanking, all the teams that didn't want to tank have suffered various setbacks. I expect NYK and CLE to improve especially, and Washington hit .500 and traditionally start out slow for whatever reason. I will say the Rose Garden or w/e it's called now is a damn tough place to play. it's cause their new defensive scheme revolves around not allowing 3pt shots at all, even if it means giving up open midrange jumpers or even shots in the paint. Their offense reminds me of NYK last year where they got off to a hot start cause everyone was making their 3s. Effective in the regular season but once playoffs reach and opponents are both more focused and have more time to scout their offense they won't shoot as well. Agree with you regarding their defense, other than their stellar 3pt defense everything else is mediocre at best. I think they're a legit regular season team but I don't think they'll be a deep playoff threat. | ||
