Can you picture Kobe hanging on like Stat, because I sure can't. He would never hang on for a whole season as a pie shell of himself.

Also there isn't one person on the planet that will walk away from 25m, if there was there would be an injury clause in the contract. Just like he would do everything in his power to make the lakers win? Come on man, he is selling you an image, stop buying into it.

Instead, they're going to keep climbing that luxury tax ladder for 5 (?) straight years with increasing rates each year, while Kobe "Winning is #1" Bryant drains the team's chances of winning a bit further. Give me a break. Maybe the Lakers and Knicks management can do a 1:1 swap, so we can see who will fuck up each other's franchises more. Yes, Kobe represents the franchise, but so did Joe Montana and cutting him loose was the correct decision. The Lakers were bidding against themselves on this one. No other team was going to sign Kobe for $15m+ coming off an injury, as his added off-the-court value is mostly only realizable for the Lakers. They had a good bit of leverage and they tossed it away. Height of stupidity. Even if you're adamant Kobe retires as a Laker and you're willing to overpay to do it, they overpaid by $10m/yr on top of the overpay! You can't just keep pointing to that Time Warner cable contract when the repeat offender tax is ramping up. They either need to get under that threshhold for a season, or they'll have to spend increasingly larger amounts of money to keep up. And if they don't keep up, that cable contract goes to waste anyways because your nationwide base isn't tuning in for a 33 win team. This is what a team with a good front office looks like. Look at those Duncan and Parker contracts. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/san_antonio.htm what... Spurs and Rockets (the two teams with the most talent imo) are nr 19 and 25 on the list of teams that pay the most to their players. And Knicks is number two. And the rockets can still afford to pay 15 milion $ for Asik.

@Elroi: I'm not sure what exactly you are looking at, but from my research, Spurs have the 8th largest salary this year. Rockets are #18. But you are right that they Spurs have a tremendous amount of talent and the reason for that is that they have homegrown talent on favorable contracts. They only have 5 veterans really.

I'm saying the Spurs are excellently managed, and pointing out the discrepency between Parker and Duncan and Kobe's contract.

If we want to compare boat contracts, why not point out that spurs are paying 15m to Diaw, Gino and Bonner? On November 26 2013 10:18 Dogfoodboy16 wrote: Im sure all the people critizing Kobe Bryant for not taking a pay cut would gladly take a pay wage deduction in order to benifit their employeers business. What people dont realise is that Kobe is going to be taxed SIXTY PECENT by the state of California. Kobes only gonna see about 18 out of that 48 million while the government is going to get about 30 million for doing nothing. If anything, Kobe is getting robbed. Most of us don't care if Kobe wants to get paid, he should, he deserves it. Its him saying "ITS CHAMPIONSHIP OR BUST IN LAL" while at the same time negotiating a contract that won't allow the Lakers to compete. Its like, one hand he is doing a spin around fade away jumper over 3 defenders while screaming "JORDAN!" and in the other hand he is signing his teams future away.
