Tax loopholes happen when businesses have revenues in multiple states or countries, have revenues and expenses where the timing can be fudged or have assets they can write up/down. i don't want to detract too much from NBA and perhaps i shouldn't comment as i'm from australia and not the states, but i'm speaking from personal experience, i am employed by a single employer, my total salary is a single figure, but i easily managed to reduce my effective tax rate from 40+% to 20+% by simple distribution. it's not even magic, it's law. anyway, how the hell did the rockets win lol

Though capital gains in the US is only taxed at 15% which is why most rich folk don't pay anything close to the statutory income tax rate, but for someone like Kobe who makes most of his money through salary/income I doubt he'll be able to get his effective rate under 25%.

NY shouldn't have to pay any taxes because they've "mortgaged" their future. I am so topical. Oh look, it's the corpse of Nazr Mohammed.

From 31 million this year to 24 million the next 2 years. Its not his fault their is a cap. The issue with Kobe is just that he's clearly not putting winning first anymore. So he's full of it the next time he uses that bullshit cliche. The bigger issue is Lakers' management. I just can't comprehend how you cave to that. Does anyone think another team was going to offer him anywhere close to that? Even accounting for the hype and PR that surrounds Kobe, I think they paid waaay above market value.

Lakers are gonna suck for the next few years tho. He'll be happy no matter what - they're gonna give him a statue one day. Kobe said it wasn't even a negotiation, he just took the Lakers' first offer.
