He's obv not worth 300k a week but there's no one else we can splash that kind of cash on. Also Vidic is leaving so that frees up a lot of salary. There is no way in hell they can sell Rooney on 300k a week salary, he is United for life. He's no where close to worth that and considering his age and length of contract even a club like Chelsea will be off limits. United could have let Rooney walk and they would still have no problems attracting players, it's not like he's a Messi or Ronaldo. Furthermore, the already have a better replacement on the squad so they don't need to buy a proven talent for him at all. They would have been far better off spending that money on a bit of rebuilding.

Yes, although money is oftentimes thrown into Baseball trades as part of the deal. The player+cash deal isn't too common though, as organizations prefer to use young talent as their "cash addition" or "supplemental value" to their trade. I didn't know the league owned the players though. I thought the organization owned the contract, and could trade that contract. Unless there is a no-trade clause in the contract a player can be sent anywhere at anytime without any say in the matter.

So they were looking at paying someone 15.6 million for a year to stay, arguably the best player they could get for that position right now and not rocking the boat OR they could let him go and then spend 30+ million on a transfer fee, and then sign someone to a 10-12 million per year deal in order to come close to replacing him. It's better for the club to keep him there in this case even if they have to splurge on wages a bit. One a side not: I can't believe how little the best footballers in the world make relative to the best Baseball players in the US. You would think they generate far more revenue in total compared to baseball for their clubs. Maybe there is a study out there I can find. I was also wondering about that. From what Ive heard, NFL players often get much less than stated in their contracts, cause they dont bring the results that are demanded in the contract. I read that no quarterback has yet been able to collect the full sum of what his contract says to pay him. maybe its also cause there are so many football players? cause how many proffesional sportsmen in America are baseball players?

Fuck yes. OMG Wow......kept it fucking late but thank god for that! Nice important win! COME ON :D Torres also looked good when he did everything but try and shoot. His shots still awful but won a lot of headers and such. 4points clear now :D lets go Stokelona too #BELIEVE
