It is, but it's still only the third sport in Australia and the total attendance gets beaten by nations in Europe which would never even be considered hosting the world cup by themselves. To put things into perspective, at 1.6 million total attendance Australia is closer to the total attendance of the dutch second division,1.2 million total, than it is to the first division at 6 million.
