The shot ends up being a yard or two wide 4min First yellow card of the match goes to Robin VanPersie for a pre emptive "slap" on Ramos as he jumps for a header 5min From the resulting freekick, a ball is played into the channel to Ronlado who does a stepover and skins Rafeal. Plays in a ball which is half cleared to Coentrao just inside the box and his shot is "tipped" onto the post. Great save. 7min Poor back pass (header) from Varane for Real Madrid, gifting Man Utd a free corner 8min Resulting corner comes to nothing and Madrid escape punishment. 11min Heavy pressure from Real Madrid, but no shot at the end of it. 12min Man Utd attempt their first shot from Rooney who is about 35yards out. It takes a defelection off Welbeck but it travels safetly into the Keepers hands. 14min Ronaldo and Benzema linking up on the edge of the box, result is Real Madrid corner. Corner...comes to nothing 39min Ozil wins a freekick against Rafeal who is having a torrid time on this right hand side vs Ronaldo, and now Ozil Freekick just outside the box on the left hand side, deep on the left hand side by the byline. Freekick comes in from Alonso. Defelects back to Benzema at the far post who loses it really poorly and cleared 42min Ronaldooo. 25yarder on the lelft foot, just over the bar 44min Man Utd counter attack, swiftly and a cross comes in and is behind for a corner Corner comes in; another poor corner, so deep. All they need to do is put it on the penalty spot like the goal they scored. Poor from Rooney 45+1min CHANCE! Ronaldo header. Cross comes in, Ronaldo is up but it is a poor header and it is well wide. Half Time! + Show Spoiler [Recap] + Real Madrid have had more efforts in this game and Rafael has had a nightmare against Ronaldo and Ozil when has had drifted out wide. However, it was Man Utd who would take the lead after winning a corner out of nothing, and Welbeck out muscled and jumped Ramos to head home from just outside the 6yard box. Real Madrid were a bit stunned, but worked themselves back into the game and deservedly equalized. Who would be the scorer? Who else, Ronaldo. A great header and jump. Ronaldo hung in the air for seconds it felt like and just powers home a header into the bottom corner. Even stevens at half time, even though Real could feel a bit unjust by the scoreline. + Show Spoiler [2nd Half Live Report] + 2nd Half! 45min And we're off in the second half. Good start Man Utd 48min Real Madrid get possesion outside of united Box and it gets to Ronaldo 25 yards out, and he swivels and fires it low, but De Gea is equal to it and saves 51min Shoot from DiMaria and well held from DeGea, keeper is in fine form today 52min Possesion around the box for Real Madrid again, and this time the ball bounces on the half volley to DiMaria who just fires inches wide. Keeper had no chance 54min Interesting. Evra finds himself in behind the Real back 4 and he seems to be brought down by the young French defender Varane but nothing is given, and the ball wonders out for a throw in. Interesting how the ref didn't see that as a foul. 59min Sub for Real Madrid - Benzema off Higuain on 60min CHANCE MADRID! Cross comes in from Khaderia (which was really well worked) and it goes all the way to the back post which is where Coentrao is and he gets on the end of it and fires it low. Defender did well and blocked for a corner Corner is crap again.... 63min Man Utd Sub - Kagawa off Giggs on 66min Good controlled possesion again from Madrid in the united half. Comes to DiMaria and he adds a sudden change of pace and he waltzes past Rooney and gets a cross and a corner. Corner comes to nothing. 69min More good possesion from Real Madrid leads too a great cross in the box on the floor from Higuain. It looked for a second that Ronaldo beat his man (Ferdinand) to the ball, but he didn't and Ferdinand clears for a corner Corner; results in nothing. 71min CRAZY MINUTE! All of a sudden Man Utd are on the attack and are 4 on 3. Rooney plays it into RVP, RVP skips past Ramos, who then unleases a shot onto the cross bar. Rafael played well imo. Carrick had a solid game. Rooney and Jones though really hurt our efforts movin forward. Wish Nani would have had a run out. Then again he isn't the possession player i have in mind. What happened to Ashley young? Someone finally take him out back? edit: Physically Madrid's players are given more opportunities to be well rested with the winter break and... the FA's.... help prepping for these games. | ||

ManU just didn't press the madrid guys even when in front of their own area, let them fire at will. Man Utd fully deserving a draw with their sheer defensive work. A true workman like performance with every member of the team putting in a shift running around after the Real Madrid stars. Real Madrid however were no means poor, and if it wasn't for a world class performance from David De Gea then it could of been 2 or 3 goals for Real. Real Madrid and Man Utd will both be feeling confident of progressing in the 2nd leg at Old Trafford in 2 weeks time. I hope we are entertained with another great game like the one we just watched Real Madrid 1-1 Man Utd | ||

Offensively, Man United just did long balls and hoped for van Persie/Kagawa to score lol. Real Madrid dominated the game, but the chances were pretty even considering Rooney's chance in first half and van Persie's misskick. As a neutral spectator, it was an enjoyable match between two great teams : ) | ||
