No it just means im being thorough and addressing what someone has to say. Hyperbolic quips means you have no relevant point to make, Id refrain from wasting peoples time with that. "He wrote alot, that guy hes defending must be so bad. Derp" Im no Valdez fan, I like Casillas and Neuer a shit ton more, they are a level above for me. So is Gigi and a few others for that matter. But I cannot think of any really sound reasons to not consider him one of the best between the sticks, its that simple. Playing for Barca is not one of them, seriously.

I do know what general consensus means and that is more highly regarded than personal, and we don't disagree on that. But on what we do disagree is that, by following your logic, person should change their opinion to match general consensus unless they want to be taken for being of lesser intelligence. And general consensus isn't always right. Take example in penicilin. While general consensus is that it's good for you, there are people who will die if they're administered it in their bodies. Maybe this isn't the best example, but i'm sure you can understand it. I've read the article and while it proves a point that he is a very good goalkeeper it has rarely taken into account several other factors. Team's style of play being the most important one. If you play possession football like barca, and you're very good at it, of course the opposing team will have lesser chances thus increasing your chances for getting clean sheet. On the other hand we have teams that play defensively and counter-attacking style of football where here opponent has more chances to shoot at the goal. You see where i'm getting here? Now you can reiterate and say how great gk he is for saving those chances, but do also take in account that while those chances may be great, what were the attackers reactions? Could it possibly happen that he freezes and shoots sloppily? Maybe the angle was off a bit? There are multiple things that must be taken into account. Also, mentioning sweeper keeper here is as much relevant as mentioning my sock drawer. It suits their style and that's why they have him and it works out great. But, like said before, there are teams who wouldn't have much of a use of sweeper keeper so i don't see this relevant. I never said he isn't good. I said he isn't that good and that there are people better than him and that he does get called up just because he plays for barca. There is a big difference between those two sentences.

As for distinctions between who was attacking. That is just nitpicking, If its on target and save is made that is all that matters. It is impossible to account for intangibles. If you go by that logic the claim can be made for all other keepers who makes saves. Being good on the ball is incredibly vital to any team these days. The modern keeper is expected to be good on the ball and to be able to distribute it well. Its not something you can ignore as a significant skillset. Not the most important one certainly but its important enough. As for the semantics of what you said. Screw that, the point is that you feel he doesnt deserve his spot as Spains no.3 am I right ? Im telling you why thats not true. Also considering most teams maul Barca in the air a fair bit sometimes, hes ability to read floaters is way better than De Gea's and will be for a long time, among other things. Shot stopping is pretty fundamental, all top goalkeepers have it and its not really the biggest differentiator even if it is arguably the most important skill. Even Jens Lehman was a good shot stopper lol.

He has beastly protection up front and when he does get called to action it's not that big of a deal (if i'm wrong feel free to prove it, i'm just saying what i've saw). Personally i believe that Casillas, Reina, de Gea and Alves are better goalkeepers (i put de Gea here because he also sometimes can have brainfarts like Valdes, but i think he has much better reflexes and is generally better shot stopper, just give him time to develop even more) so i'm a bit baffled why does he get called up to representation so much, except the fact that he is Barca keeper. Valdes have a really good passing skills and it's actually quite important fro Barcelona, + he's catalan which is an important asset :p, but yeah he has a bit too many brainfarts, but he's able to have godlikes matches too.

And no, if we go by that logic it actually proves my point here. I'm not saying being good on the ball isn't important in modern football, but what i am saying is that i would rather have gk who is excellent in shot stopping and has fine reflexes than one who can pass the ball very well but lags behind in other areas. About being no.3, i'm a bit iffy on that. He can be no.3, but in few years time i would put de Gea there. Only reason i'm not putting him on right now is that he still has some progress to make. Anyway, this is getting boring for me. You had some nice arguments but my opinion hasn't changed and it won't probably (never say never though). Looking forward to our next discussion ![]()

Wasn't Rebs also saying that Swansea don't play like Barca? If he was, he will be here once he wakes up to deliver a 17 paragraph thesis backing up his argument and showing why it is wrong.
