I believe they wont let that happen? Im sure it will be vs 2nd place? No way they can open that with a Division 1 team xD
Why not? They won the FA Cup fair and square. It's their right to play in the Community Shield.
Cuz it labeled "the premier league opener" how can you open Prem with a division 1 team
It's the "Football Association Community Shield." I believe Wigan are still in the Football League, yes?
Well Wiki seems to think it is Wigan vs Man Utd which i think is silly...i know what your saying, but it will be a stupid match. Especially considering Wigan will have a league fixture the week before and then be a fixture behind due to playing the following week at Wembley xD
Theoretically the FA Cup is open to any team in the country, so, if for some strange reason a League 2 team wins the FA Cup one day, should they not be allowed to play in the Europa League? Should they not have the right to play in the Community Shield because they are a lower-tier team?
Be interesting....would be very strange We will find out soon i guess, they haven't released any information on this years Community Shield but i guess they will as soon as they know xD
Malaga have confirmed reported Manchester City target Manuel Pellegrini is free to leave the Spanish club this summer.
The Chilean coach is the red-hot favourite to fill the vacancy left by Monday's sacking of Roberto Mancini, and the Liga club have smoothed his anticipated path to The Etihad.

I don't think that it would be financially viable for a League 2 team to fly off around Europe... but they should of course have the right. If qualification for xxxx tournament is part of the prize of winning a trophy, it would be stupid to suggest that the winners shouldn't recieve their prize because they weren't favourites.
I'm not sure about Europa League television money, but surely that's enough to pay for their flights around Europe?
Everything is set for another european final, unfortunately for Benfica they are cursed (cursed!), so these wonderful plastic flags will get their air time for sure!

I don't think so. Bradford's president said that they would probably reject the invitation because the money wouldn't be enough. Winning the League Cup only gives you £100,000, and they would only be placed in the third qualifying round. For a League 2 team, it's probably not worth the extra fixtures considering they already have a 46 game league season, the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, especially as the payout isn't that good.
Tomorrow the "Copa del rey" from Spanish. Real Madrid vs Athletico (2nd vs 3th in La Liga).
- Real Madrid without defenders. Marcelo, Varane, Ramos injured.Pepe punished by Mourinho because he defended Casillas. - Athletico in his best year in lot of time, they have been second above Madrid more than half of the season. - But Athletico usually choke against Real Madrid. They haven't won Madrid in more than 10 years. And they are in a bad streak in La Liga this last two months.
I think Real Madrid is going to win, but I hope Athletico wins
