Is there such thing as a feeling when you think your body is breaking down fat as fuel? I didn't have time this morning to eat breakfast prior to 6 hours of back to back classes, and sometime in between my hunger just went away. Common sense tells me that it's due to an great amount of energy produced by breaking down fat, but then again i have no idea.

I assume this is 5RM and not 1RM, right?

1RM. I would say Bench in between 1 and 1.25 BW, and Squat in between 1.5 and 1.75 though.

But these are just really rough guidelines, and the less you weigh, the easier it is to hit those numbers.

Why am I still so sore after working out mainly with my legs. I worked out Tuesday at noon and right now my hamstrings are still f'n sore as hell. I honestly won't be able to do legs again until Friday (but i'm busy so saturday) This is really throwing my workout schedule off... I can't get to the point where i can lift on Tuesday/Thursday. (right now it hurts to sit down. not like hurt hurt, like sore as fuck hurt).

I stretch after workouts, I stretch in the evenings. I try to walk around during the day ( i work in an office). what else should I be doing? I drink alot of water.

Just warm-up properly and you should be fine. I had the same thing today where my hamstrings were still sore from mondays but once you get going you don't really notice it anymore (or you should just suck it up). Also once you train regularly the soreness will be a lot less.

Those three, as well as foam rolling.

Eventually, you also might just hit a wall in recovery, where you need to either back off the workout (maybe the volume or maybe the weight increases) Or just suffer through it and work out on the tues/thur(/sat?) schedule and make yourself used to the change.

If you are still doing that crazy amount of leg volume that you posted a bit back I wouldn't be surprised you are so sore.

That's why we wanted you on SS so you would be squatting 3x a week so the soreness would eventually go away, but not with excessive leg volume exercises

Is squatting to parallel enough to activate the hamstrings? Just wondering cause my girlfriend is doing stronglifts with me squatting 3X a week heavy (shes currently at 185X5 @ 130 bw) to parallel and wants her ass/thighs to look more "toned". Lol I know you guys hate that word but girls love it. If that sounds like a good solution what are some good mobility exercises that allow ass to grass squats?

ATG for more hammies

http://www.nsca-lift.org/HotTopic/download/Squat Depth.pdf
http://www.apec-s.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Deep-Squats.pdf

You get some but not maximal.... why not just do ATG...?

^^Okay sounds good! To extend on that question is it possible to go ass to grass with low bar without compromising form? As well as how much should you be testing you 1 rep max/is there any benefits other than ego boosting for maxing out?

What about when you're running very long distances and your legs feel like they're out of gas? Slightly glib, but that's a strange feeling and it seems related.

Yes... though most people cannot anymore due to sitting and shoes and how they chronically shorten the hamstrings and calves respectively. So stretch those muscles out

There's no benefit to maxing out unless you're competing or on a bulgarian type system or utilizing explosive lifts

Most strength work can be done with max intensity of triples to make optimal progress

If you're referring to the "wall" in marathon running that would be when you run out of liver & intramuscular glucose at mile 19 or 20 or something for inexperienced runners

can anyone recommend me some stretches similar to this

i tried every kind of stretch that i know of and tried some of the stretches that youtube guy posted, but nothing hits my hip like that stretch in the vid. this pain always seems to come after my 2nd set of squats. i also do about 5 warmups starting with an empty bar. i may have been dropping down too quickly idk. and it's always my left hip that feels uncomfortable, and the pain goes away the next day.

I usually just sit like that with my arms between my legs with my elbows pushing out on my knees. For the last year whenever i'm just chilling i'll sit down like that ATG pushing out on my knees and its helped me out a lot. Now everyone i know that doesnt oly lift is like "how the fuck are you doing that?". It's just practice. I can now comfortably sit down in that squat position for several minutes.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

So I've been trying to get a home gym set going but when I told my parents that I would be doing deadlifts, they said it will ruin the floor even in the basement or garage. I told them that building a platform (like so) would protect the floor but they said the house is made with wooden frame and cement so it will break since cement is weaker than concrete. I'm not expert in construction but I'm fairly skeptical of their claim. I saw a ton of people (Canadians included) that said they work out in their garage with nothing more than a rubber mat and nobody mentioned cracked floors. And from what I read on wiki, cement is a binding element of concrete so I'm not sure how it's possible to lay out a foundation with cement.
Anyone have some insight regarding this?

I'm 90% sure it would be unsafe to live on a house which foundations crack by dropping 200kg to the floor.

you're fine. I've worked in construction off and on for 8 years. If you are using metal plates you will want a mat because you can chip the cement if/when you drop them, but it is next to impossible to fracture cement with any weight humanly possible to lift. Unless your floor is like 4" think which I would guess would not be up to building code.

That's what I suspected. Are there any links that I can show my parents? I'm worried they're pretty set on their ways though. They are often retardedly stubborn on stupid shit but maybe they will change their mind.

And what exactly do they mean by cement being weaker than concrete? I still can't wrap my head around that...

I'm having a hard time finding a site that rates the strength of cement, I'll try to find the building codes for cement (you're in ontario right?). The basic logic argument I'd use is that it is supporting your enitre house and you park cars on it, how is dropping 500lbs on it going to hurt it?
