Working in the sun has finally caught up with me; rather than just the farmers tan I've been going with, I'm finally sunburnt, which is clearly not good for my health, if only minorly affecting my fitness. After pulling rocks on friday, saturday and sunday I had a "break" today where we spread grass seed instead. Ten laps of the 1.5 mile course, took from 8 am to about 2 pm of straight sunshine, spread just over 1,000 pounds of grass seed.

Tomorrow it's back to manual labor as I spread some top soil. Shouldn't be quite so long, but DEFINITELY going to be a workout... and I have the gym that night, too. It's going to take a bit out of me, but I think I'll be able to move up my scheduled amount on dead and squat, and maybe push through bench.

what job is this? you workin for your dads company or just a general labour job?

My dad teaches highschool, and coaches cross country at the same school. The school hired someone to cut a new course through the woods behind school, but much of the course wasn't to the state minimum standards, so the school hired dad to "fix" what the other guy did. We've spent my five weeks of summer so far cutting trees and dragging them out of the trail, pulling the stumps, digging up rocks, digging up and moving old stone walls, from when the land was cow pasture, and spreading grass seed. There's still another two-three weeks to do, and we have to hope it rains soon.

It's not a company, it's just dad and me, and on a few days one of my cousins. Should pay for textbooks when I go back to school in the fall.

Man your life sounds very physical, are you still in HS?
Life is run, it is dance, it is fast, passionate and BAM!, you dance and sing and booze while you can for now is the time and time is mine. Smile and laugh when still can for now is the time and soon you die!

True dat brother...

Todays workout, week 2 on cycle 2 of 3/5/1...

Flat Bench: 60kg x 5, 70kg x 5, 80kg x 5
OHP: 60kg x 5-5-5 (YEEEEEEEEEAH BOI! Finally repping 60kgs! Will do again though next time)
Inc. DB Press: 21kg x 8-8-8

A total of 25 pullups, done in sets of 5 spread out during the workout.
Did some flyes and curlz. Dunno about they flyes but my chest is so lagging that I'll give them a shot. Just some superlightweight and focus of stretch. Sick pump from the curlz.

edit

@Frodac: That is amazing! Now even your mom can't stop you from lifting :D Just say that it is part of the procedure. Time to get back on track!

What? You finally catched up to me? It seems I need to start pressing really hard again. .

get ready! :D

Breathe.
Lead with your hips (ass).
And don't lean forward.
Squeeze your gut. seriously, it works wonders.

Along with what everyone else has said, I think it looks like you could go another inch deeper for parallel (top of thighs parallel I mean).

Next time you warm up focus on keeping the weight on your heels, this is usually enough to keep from leaning forward

I miss squatting

Why aren't you?

I'm not progressing "as much" as I'd like to in squat, but I still love to do it, it's awesome, and it activates my go-batshit-funkie mode.

My knee is currently some kind of minorly fucked up. I need to get it checked out, but I don't get insurance until almost the end of the year- if I get it seen now and it turns out to be something bigger than expected, I don't have insurance and when I do get put on the plan it probably won't get covered since it would be a pre-existing condition

I didn't lift at all for like 3 weeks (because I also screwed up my shoulder-smart -_-), now I'm back at it and I do no-weight bar squats and just add weight until I feel the tightness in my knee. Only get up to like 50kg. So technically I am squatting, but since I'm doing less than 50% weight it's not the same.

It's just the owner of the gym is kinda worried about me squatting 75kg and apparently would like for me to wear a belt. He gives good advice, it's just that I feel it's kinda early for belt. Does it enforce good form? As always, thanks everyone.

a belt will mostly help you keep your core tight I think. the downside is that by doing that it reduces the stress on the core muscle so they dont get trained as hard as they could be. this will lead to a "weak" core (compared to the other muscles involved in the squat) which means that at some point you wont be able to max-squat without the belt

but thats just my opinion. I use a belt for my deadlift work sets only. dont like squatting with a belt

You could try putting the belt on loosely. It'll make you gym manager happy that you're wearing one - I doubt he's taking enough interest in your training to realize the difference, and he's probably just trying to cover himself from being sued. Keeping the belt on lightly has the benefit of still forcing you to properly engage all your core muscles, while "showing" your body, especially your back what it's supposed to be doing through the motion. It's more of a guide this way than it is a support.

Or you could just get used to squatting with a belt. There's never any -wrong- time to start using one, just don't let yourself become dependent on them.

I wonder what hamman's max squat was when he was at the otc. I read that rezazadeh never bothered trying to increase his squat over 400kg.

This video made me think about my training philosophies, I definitely need to pick up my strength.
I need to deadlift more, there is no reason for me to only pull 145kg when I squat 160 LOL.
