My shoulder injury seems to be getting a lot better so i figured i could actually somewhat start working out. I still cant do any kind of press or workout that involves pushing away from my body which sucks. Here's what i started with. squat -- 90lbs deadlift -- 90lbs then i just do some rehab work on my shoulder but i dont like not being able to work out everything. Do you guys know anything i could sub in to get a more full workout while i cant push away from my body? I could put the weight up on the squat and deadlift and still be fine but i wanted to start low with my shoulder being hurt and just work on technique for awhile. I still have about 1.5 months left of what the docs said it'd take to heal so hopefully then i can work out for real. Any compound exercise that doesn't cause pain is likely fine. But it really depends on what your injury is so I don't know specifically unless you can elucidate better I dislocated the AC joint in my right shoulder, docs said a grade 3 but i really dont think it was that bad. I feel fine everywhere around the shoulder except i get like a burning feeling when i do bench press or any kind of press, its hurting mostly around the area of my shoulderblade where the bone attaches i think?

I reached my weight loss goal that I set for myself when I originally posted in this thread(Although I forgot to be specific). My goal was to reach 250lbs by June and I'm at 247lbs as of today. That's 33lbs lost since I started posting here and 63lbs lost total. Since I've reached my initial goal and I'm still not satisfied yet, I'm going to make my next goal to be 220lbs before September. On a side note, my brother has been doing SS with me and he reached 305lbs on his deadlift today. He started at I think 130/140lbs. I told him I'd post his milestone ^^.

I feel fine everywhere around the shoulder except i get like a burning feeling when i do bench press or any kind of press, its hurting mostly around the area of my shoulderblade where the bone attaches i think? I wrote up some general stuff on AC joint a while ago here it is: Basically, you can follow tendonitis protocol minus the exercise and stretching for now: http://www.eatmoveimprove.com/2009/08/on-tendonitis/ The AC joint connects scapular to the rest of the body through the clavicle. The joint is relatively immobile (it does operate to some degree to get the arm overhead). Once it gets moving via sprain or tearing of the ligaments, it's very easy to get arthritis in the joint since the cartilage wears down pretty quickly. Basically, what you do with AC joint is rest, massage the muscles around the area to increase blood flow for healing + keep the muscles from tightening up, fish oil for anti-inflammatory, ice if it helps. Once it start feeling better improve range of motion with non-painful movement, and start strengthening rotator cuff muscles to make the shoulder more stable. Then work slowly back into compound movements. Usually each of these steps will take 2-4 weeks each. Can take more or less depending on how your body recovers -- to improve recovery capacity take the fish oil, sleep more, eat quality foods, etc.

Age: 25 || Height: 6'4" || Weight: 300LB Starting Date: 06/10/2011 || Goal Date: not sure Training goals -- I cant lift weights just because I have a very very very bad back. Really I just wanna lose some weight just gonna be honest :D Nutrition goals -- I am eating every 3 hours something light to keep my metabolism up a low fat / fat free yogurt almost right when I get up in order to jump start it, then 3 hours from then a salad then 3 hours form then a yogurt and so forth and so forth. I have been taking walks every day with my dog about a half a mile. Also have a bike that a use 15mins every day. I have lost 5 LB already and looking forward to losing more. Misc goals -- I put on weight maybe different reasons then most, not because I am lazy just because of how bad my back is and I couldn't really do active things, but now I got some shots in my back and looking forward to maybe rollerblading or doing something a lil more active since some of the back pain is gone. Just to get you an idea, i have 10 - 12 Bulging disks in my back so it hurts to even lay down. Just so you understand that I am not a lazy American :D lol we will see where this diet takes me I am excited to drop some weight so far so good :D

Anyone have any opinions on this?? Atkins-style diet. Good for fat loss, because carbs are what causes most "mindless eating," because they don't contribute nearly as well to hunger suppression as fat or proteins, and because they're the primary component of most junk foods. It's not for everyone though - I've read a lot, known people who have had, and have personally experienced (when I first switched to paleo and didn't eat enough carbs) a terrible terrible energy loss when switching to the diet. I hear that sometimes goes away after time, so make sure he gives it a good two weeks if he runs into that problem, but I know I personally never adjusted to it. I think I remember someone documenting their diet ~50 pages back (?or more?) that was doing the same type of thing. Maybe try to find their post? Just so you understand that I am not a lazy American :D lol we will see where this diet takes me I am excited to drop some weight so far so good :D Eating frequently to "keep up your metabolism" is a myth; if anything, the reverse is true. Up through the first three days of a fast, the metabolic rate is actually increased by not eating. Just eat when you're hungry, count calories if it's necessary. That back definitely is qualifies as a good reason not to lift, imo. Pretty baller that you're even trying to exercise/diet. What did you do to it, if you don't mind me asking? http://thehealthyskeptic.org/9-steps-to-perfect-health-1-dont-eat-toxins Good article/blog post (although it's pretty long) summarizing most of the diet ideas I've come to associate with this thread; Could be very useful if anyone is trying to explain to someone why you aren't eating bread or pasta. There's also a whole lot of related links (arguing both for and against, mostly scientific studies) down in the comments section for further reading.
