Thanks. That's exactly what it felt like. I think what caused it was that I was focusing on getting full hip extension and thrusting my hips forwards which sometimes caused me to lean too far back and then compensate by jumping my feet back under the rest of me.

I was checking the So You Think You Can Squat video's again and he's saying that you should keep your head tilted slightly upward, while Rip says neutral spine. Is this difference just because of high/low bar? I tilt my head slightly upward. You definitely need a neutral spine to stay injury free but tilting your head back will help keep your upper back from rounding over, hence staying neutral. Some people claim that its ok to round your upper back but I think those people are just making an excuse for trying to lift too much weight than they can do with proper form. And to whomever asked about protein powders; I have a shake or two every day. Its not necessary if you can plan every single meal out with perfect proportions and eat smaller meals every 2-3 hours but the fact is those of us that are social and have families and jobs simply can't do that. The protein powders shouldn't be used to replace meals but used to augment your diet to get enough protein (.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body weight).
I've squatted with a lot of different head positions trying to find what works best for me. I started with head down but that caused me to tip forward a little too much and I found it very hard to breathe. Now I think I stare mostly forwards with maybe some upward tilt as I am standing up.

Well for me personally I wasn't keeping a straight bar path. Just had to focus on getting my head out of the way and push through it as opposed to around it. And just really squeezing my back and tri to finish it off. Im no expert but it's worked for me!!!

Sounds like you need a better tasting supplement. Might I recommend BSN's stuff? I crave that shit. Especially the "vanilla ice cream" and "strawberry" flavors

Squat form check
Meh. Free squats are so weird nowadays. I was getting happy with my box squat form but...
Anyways, Knees traveling too far forward? Keeping my head up isn't normally a problem, was too worried about the camera.
Need critiquing. I plan on maxing out on monday/wednesday in squat...
On another note, since getting involved in lifting or whatever, has anybody else started to just need physical activity? Before this I didn't do too much physically, but yesterday I just had to go run for a little and later in the night I couldn't sleep, so I took a half an hour walk around 11:30 in my neighborhood. Just wonderin.

looked good to me man and I have to say i've kinda noticed that too - but only on rest days. after a heavy squat/deadlifting session I just wanna curl up in bed and sleep forever hehe
im gonna try snatching for the first time tomorrow. any advice for total beginners? i've watched the tutorial on californiastrength and some youtube videos. it looks simple enough but I will probably fail horribly hehe

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but before starting SS in january I used to do my own crappy 5day split (well it wasn't that bad... was good at maintaining current body) so switching to SS made me feel a need to gym on off days. Even when I was going every week day I'd have weekends where I really wanted to go do something on the weekend too...

if you have a long stick, I would try practicing on that first.

Pretty much the same for me. Since starting on an almost pure strength regimen I noticed right away that it was a lot less activity overall than what I had been used to. I'd feel super antsy especially on my off days. It was really hard to sit still and force myself not to do anything on rest days that would interfere with recovery. tbh I was probably burning twice the calories I am now since doing SS.
My overall endurance has probably suffered slightly, however that is easily fixable once a base strength is established. It's odd. I am still pretty much the same weight despite my best efforts to eat like a beast and although I do feel stronger and know that I am, I don't feel faster, more agile, or as explosive as I felt prior to doing SS. It's probably just a perception thing.
edit:/ Also, Catch, that video is hilarious because it seems like you're trying so hard not to look at yourself in the mirror like some sort of gym douchebag lol.

^I laughed. @ travis. and then agreed
Anyways, thanks guys. I guess I won't worry about it as much then. But yeah I find myself wanting to do more. Can't wait to switch routines... 4 day/wk split with tire conditioning on Saturdays. I think I'll be satisfied. lol it is only on off days where I need to do something - the other days are such a high intensity that when I get done I'm like yeah, I'm gonna go nap.
@majin. Personally I have found the opposite, but that is because I didn't really do too much before SS (Besides some random routine I was doing). I noticed how explosive I've become in the video I just posted and while I'm sure actual speed/plyometrics/ect training would take it to another level, I found I've improved in all aspects. Esp. cardiovasular endurance because that was my biggest weak point. That has more to do with the eliptical/running/bike I've been doing recently though. But now that I'm beginning to get near the end of my run with SS (another week of maxing then one rest week), I need more to do. But it is really simple stuff - walking, perhaps some moderate cardio. Maybe I'm taking it too easy in this deload week or maybe I'm just actually getting interested in it a lot. Idunno.
