Working on my flexibility is a plus.
Sounds like a win-win to me.

I don't recommend excessive stretching before a workout because that can affect performance, but some light stretching is important for being able to hit a full squat. Also, warmup sets will help you gain the flexibility you need to squat full.

I was like holy shit is this suppose to be this heavy lol. Haha. I'm still struggling at olympic bar weight. Having a non olympic set was actually good for me: lifting a bar would be too hard for me at the beginning. I can do a full squat. Those muscles are stretched. Anything the other direction though, and it's a pain. Like deadlift can be hard b/c of my long legs and lack of flexibility. is there a stretching regiment you would suggest?

I searched around and found that it was probably due to my hamstrings being not flexible enough. Do you guys have specific streches you do to help with squatting ? Just google "hamstring stretches" and spend maybe 10 minutes per day doing them. Rant. + Show Spoiler + I swear my family is trying everything they can to stall me from going to the gym. First, there's some "deal" my mother gets at a local university for letting their students shadow in her classroom. Then she doesn't know who to talk to to cash in on this deal. Then I might as well just pay the $20/month to go to that university gym anyway. But wait, why don't you check out this other (commercial) gym that is clearly much more expensive and has worse hours? because it's closer. Oh, it doesn't have the weights you need? Well can't you go anyway and do something else? No? Well, what was it you mentioned about bodyweight training a week ago? Oh, you still need a way to train legs? Well I can probably get you into your old high school gym starting in a month for that. No? well look into that $20/month thing. Oh, they want you to pay for parking? let me talk to someone, I get free parking there. Clearly, someone doesn't want me going to the gym. I don't understand how 65 dollars for three months of lifting and parking is a big deal, but I need to borrow it from my parents as my summer job won't have me paid until july. I also don't have a car of my own, and the gym IS ~20 minutes away, so I need them to approve of me going there. But it's been three weeks now of discussion, and two since I've been home, and I am no closer to going to the gym than when it all began. FML. Also, they continue to roll their eyes at any meal, when I ignore the bread/pasta, or the corn, peanuts, and various other foods I don't eat right now, each and every time I take my vitamins in front of them, or when I need to run to the store for another gallon of milk every three days. I don't see how trying to be healthy is offensive to them, especially when my mother complains daily about how old she feels, how poorly her pants are fitting, how my sisters have both gained weight, or when my father has to watch his cholesterol and blood pressure so carefully, having a family history of heart problems, and also having had a "something" ~1.5 years ago that put him in the hospital for minor surgery. They're not healthy, but Why is ME trying to be such a terrible thing? I mad. I also, after two days of reading still have NO IDEA how to go about structuring a bodyweight training routine. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to gymnastic ability - hell, I don't have the balance to stand on one foot sometimes, let alone do a proper handstand. But I'm really interested in learning these techniques, it just seems much more difficult to build a routine than barbell training, where SL and SS are quite simple. I read most of eshlow's article, and now I understand the theory behind building a beginners routine, the rep schemes, the way to determine progression, but I still don't know how to pick specific exercises, how to actually PERFORM most of them, what kind of equipment is required for each. Can someone who has experience in bodyweight training maybe link me to the bodyweight equivalent of a SS routine? something pre-made for beginners that will challenge a complete novice like me, but not leave me wasting my time (like with machines) or worse, hurting myself? I really hope this type of thing exists =/ I put one of htem in that article haha... some of the available stuff is: Planche Front lever Back lever some type of rowing Handstands, dips/pullups L-sit -> manna progression Then do whatever you want for legs if you dont have access to weights. Sprinting, lunges, pistols, etc. As for family yeah I agree with you. People want to put their misery onto you instead of try to change what they do because they are lazy and like to take the easy way out and blame people for trying to change themselves. It's pretty retarded. Ignore them... maybe they come around but usually they don't. I know a buncha people who were way overweight/obese. When they first start losing weight people were supportive of them of course. But once they KEEP losing weight and start getting fit people are like you're losing too much weight... you need to eat more! You're getting too skinny it's unhealthy (when of course they are all 50+ lbs overweight)..... And they generally give the person losing weight and gaining muscle dirty looks. It's amazing what people do when they see you fixing their life but they make no attempt to fix theirs. EVEN family.... sometimes ESPECIALLY family.

I see a bit of that in my own house. My dad isn't overweight but only does cardio, and got all defensive about me using his old weight set. And my mom just is like "why don't you walk more, I do it every morning" despite the fact that she continues to gain weight.

Side note- really starting to enjoy the overhead press. Improving technique and just finished off 150x5x5 feels good feels great

Bench: 195x6, 205x6, 215x6. 3rd set my spotter helped with reps 3-6; I wanted to get the maximum workout possible today. Military press (dumbells): 50sx6, 50sx6, 55x6. Flys (dumbells): 35sx6x3 Planks: 1:30 each on left arm, right arm, and both arms. Did a couple tricep exercises and another shoulder exercise as well. Overall, a pretty good workout! Getting close to my strength goals. Also, was surprised to weigh myself and find that I'm at 193 pounds :O I hope the 13 pounds I've gained since January is mostly muscle ![]()

Thanks for the help guys. When it comes to being healthy I am quite the noob. The first thing that popped up when I Googled it was Fitness Routines I was thinking of doing this 3-4 times a week with a run 1-2 times a week. With a Healthy Diet I think this will be ok.... Not shure though.

Just don't drink the gallon of milk that some people in this thread are drinking, and switch your diet over to lots of vegetables and meat (little to no grains).
