A friend of mine is looking for a new job. He got through several stages of interview and now he is asked to provide two references, but the only people suitable of providing this is his current employer - which obviously will cause problems especially when the perspective opportunity may or may not be finalized yet. What ahould he do in this situation?

What ahould he do in this situation? Well, it depends. Do they want personal or professional references? One can always give character references of someone who can verify work ethic and general demeanor, though some companies aren't looking for that. Is the job he's leaving his first job? It's hard to get professional references if so, but he can always go back to previous jobs if he knows anyone from back then. When I job hunt from a job I'm at, there's usually at least one coworker I talk to about it that I trust not to go behind my back. That person almost always becomes my reference. If he's a college grad (I assume he is, in this situation), you can see if he can reach out to professors and have them give references, it's fairly well similar and some employers will appreciate that sort of thing.

My best understanding is that this is a professional reference. So yeah, really weird situation.

Even part time jobs you can get a manager to say something like "he was here on time and worked hard" or something like that. But yeah, it can be rough if they really want them. I feel for the guy, I've been there before.

Yango expressed the same sentiment, but I had friends that said they actually just didn't have fun playing it, that it felt like work.

Outside interest in the thread confuses the fuck out of me unless Significant/Superior Otter becomes a thing.
