It's a luxury in the sense that many people in poverty literally do not have the spare time and mental energy to do it. When they are stuck working and managing immediate bill payments all the time there's no energy left to disengage and look at the big picture.

Although I haven't actually committed to it yet. Fall release date for PC, or start playing tomorrow on PS4...

Obviously it sucks saying it to someone when they are down but very often the only way out is to realize you are at fault.

I think most of us know people in the first category. Maybe they habitually spend more than they should, or don't understand how deep a hole they dig for themselves when they constantly max out credit cards but pay only the minimum, or otherwise find new and interesting ways to screw themselves. These people are an intervention and some discipline away from being fine. The problem is, at least in the US, that our culture projects the first category onto the second. Because we know people who really just need to get it together we are quick to assume that's true of anyone who struggles. We're aware only in the abstract that people who can't flip a switch and recover exist, and we rarely meet them because by simply having money the structures that underpin everyday life force us away from one another.

Business is a bit different though. It goes in cycles. Often companies make choices to try survive that guarantee they'll fall. That retail store that cut employees out to try cut costs which meant that people stopped getting helped and just stopped buying thus sealing their fall. That kind of short sighted decision making happens often in business. It's far less forgivable in my eyes.
