Maybe like most things that's more a regional issue? edit: Oh shit yes I read about some app people use where they write cheques then take photo to send to bank to pay things as a cheaper way than EFT. Freaking insane man.

I actually had to go to my bank and order checks after switching apartments awhile back because that was their required form of payment(I suppose they'd have accepted cash or money order but I'd have to go specifically get those out each month, meh). First time I had to write a check in what felt like forever, and of course the lowest amount of checks I could order was 100, so here I am writing 1 check a month, going through those 100 at a snails pace that will never actually come to completion because I highly doubt I stay at the same place for 9 years.

Pretty sure I haven't used a single one in three years. Here you send people money electronically at ATM machines or on your phone, then screenshot/picture a receipt and show them that via WhatsApp. Malaysia has a 6% VAT on everything too. It's dumb here too.

That's just crazy man, shame. Did they tell you why? Cheques just are so dam incredibly insecure and inconsistent.

The guy who runs the complex(it's his only property, not a big property management firm or anything) is pretty old school, doesn't have electronic stuff setup. It's not actually a big deal, and ya I had gotten used to paying everything online, but it's easy enough to walk to the office on the 1st of every month and hand in a check.

Did a sealed today for RIX's official release, the pool was really interesting so mtg people feel free to chime in about how you'd have built it! + Show Spoiler + The pool. I screwed up and only opened 5 packs initially, surprised at how I couldn't get 23 playables with any pair, getting up to 22 in GW, RW, BR... I noticed the 6th left in the box and opened it after 30+ of the 45 minutes build time has elapsed, oops. W would like some more vampires for synergies, but it has a couple removal and low curve. U is literally 100% creatures, I've had no middle ground for like my last 10+ sealed pools, either too few cards (as in not even 8 playables), not enough creatures, and here a new one with all creatures. Bottom of the curve is light so I'd really like a colour with some 2-3 drops + interaction before I attempt this one. B has removal and 4-drops and... that's pretty much it. The Zealot was in the 6th pack and before that I was really annoyed at the lack of early plays while it had almost all my removal. R has removal and a more balanced curve however it lacks power plays or a consistent curve for its good early drops. G has great individual creatures and merfolk synergies but is a bit light on removal. Going BR maybe splashing U for the gold pirates would have been comfort zone for me, stacking up all the removal, but I felt that I needed more early plays (esp. before zealot) and I wasn't sure it'd be enough to close games. UG had neat little synergies and a mix of evasive creatures and big bodies but basically no interaction at all, same with GW, so I didn't feel comfortable attempting them. In the end I was on BW and after opening a couple more early plays in the 6th booster and faced with the clock I decided to go with it. But had I been on MTGO I'd certainly have registered 3-4 decks and swapped between them to get a feel. Match 1 vs UG merfolk + Show Spoiler + Game 1 t2 Deeproot Warrior, t3 Kumena (I untap and kill it), t4 Aquatic Incursion. Meanwhile I mulled and flood, so despite my opponent somehow playing scared and missing out on clock (notably when he got to 8 mana to just make 2 creatures unblockable) not much I could do with 5 spells and 9 lands. Game 2 I mulligan to 5 on the play, miss my 3rd land drop and he goes t2 Deeproot Elite, t3 Kumena. "We don't really need to play that one out", scoop. 0-1 Match 2 vs RG dinos + Show Spoiler + I go full lucksack on that one. Game 1 mull on the play into curving out 1->4 despite only playing Skymarcher Aspirant as a 1-drop. I have a bunch of x/1s and he plays dino tutor fetching up Raging Swordtooth, so I can either let him wreck my board and hope he keeps piling stuff and try to come back with Slaughter the Strong, or go all-in. I slap Mark of the Vampire on a Vampire Revenant to make him survive the ping, forfeit half my board and he doesn't have an answer. Game 2 we both mull, and he plays several X/1s too while I have an Imperial Aerosaur out and used its etb to get ahead, so playing Swordtooth could put him ahead on stats but while killing half his board too. He still goes for it, and surmising that he doesn't have Lightning Strike from his plays earlier I suit up again, the Aerosaur this time, and threaten lethal. He knew I had Vraska's Contempt from an explore, and swung at me. I decided to let it through, as without Lightning Strike he needs tricks I can react to to add the last 3 points of damage. He doesn't have them and I swing for exactsies. He told me afterwards that he had Dire Fleet Daredevil and was hoping that I'd exile the Swordtooth so he could then play the Daredevil and snatch Contempt to exile my only creature. However he could only put me to 6 and figured I wouldn't feel threatened (he was right) and used Tilonalli's Crown to push more damage, leaving him without the mana for his play even if I used Contempt. I'd have gotten blown out super hard if it happened though. 1-1 Match 3 v UB aura tempo + Show Spoiler + After the match I was told I was paired up, which explains the ridiculous stuff I was up against. 2x Waterknot, OwtW, Mark of the Vampire, Siren Reaver, 2x raid man-o-war, 2x kitesail corsair, pirate tutor... Game 1 I'm just way too behind, with a bunch of 4-drops in hand since that's almost a 3rd of my deck and on 4 lands, my opponent able to cast double spells as early as turn 4, with t3 forerunner fetching corsair, t4 corsair + owtw on forerunner, turn 5 mark of the vampire on the corsair. I live by sacrificing one of my best creatures in imperial aerosaur to the corsair, and destroying OwtW with Cleansing Ray to trade for the forerunner. He's got Siren's Ruse and ways to bounce however and the pings from the forerunner built up, until I have to try stabilise at 1 with Twilight Prophet, maybe getting Ascend the following turn... nope, Waterknot, no more blockers, I die. Game 2 he goes t2 Zealot, t3 Secrets of the Golden City even discarding a land to hand size... but I have Voracious Vampire and a flyer and he's flooding so he scoops (maybe a bit early?). Game 3 I manage to somehow handle his flying onslaught, forcing him to use a bounce on a vampire token with a counter from Sanguine Glorifier, so he can race, then Waterknot the Glorifier and the Paladin that created the token. I've got a leg up this time thanks to my own removal (Divine Verdict on Corsair + Mark has to feel extra good, saving Cleansing Ray for the next aura). I have Emissary of Sunrise, and a Voracious Vampire, so I have a choice between removing his blockers or suiting up with Mark myself. I'm so afraid of bounce from him considering his plan and overall card quality that rivals that of a draft that I go the slower route. In the end he suits up a Zealot with Mark and I just kill it with Cleansing Ray to free the path to victory. I definitely got super lucky that he flooded hard g2, and that he didn't curve out again (he had Siren Reaver t3 but I handled it through t4 Paladin, t5 land, Aspirant + Glorifier to hit Ascend and have a blocker), since that let me stabilise and having to use Waterknot on my bigger bodies slowed him down. 2-1 Match 4 vs UG go-wide + bombs + Show Spoiler + Game 1 I'm lucky again, going t2 Aspirant t3 Voracious Vampire t4 kill some stuff after a mull, while he went 3-drop -> UG flip enchant, and he can't handle the evasion after the enchantment amounted to a time walk. He plays Tendershoot Dryad despite still being dead on board. I switch Forerunner of the Coalition for Dark Inquiry, figuring that if I am to get rid of such bombs it'll work better than another Cleansing Ray (for the enchant). Game 2 we both mull, and I keep a 3-lander with Dark Inquiry, Luminous Bonds and Mark of the Vampire. Why not? t3 I see he kept a super land-heavy hand, and I remove Soul of the Rapids from his hand since I drew Impale by then and hexproof is more annoying than Colossal Dreadmaw or Knight of the Stampede. Pacify the dino, he plays Siren Lookout revealing Overgrown Armasaur, I let him play it then cast Slaughter the Strong to effectively halve his power on board. It's only on turn 8 that I draw my 1st creature. At least it's Dusk Charger, so I can drop it, put Mark on it to trigger Ascend (I'd have ideally waited a turn but well... I'm at 8 so hard situations call for harsh measures). He's very annoyed, seeing how he's complained about his draws for several turns (dude it took me 8 draws to find a creature), but still rips Polyraptor off the top. Impale, swing, suddenly we're both at 13 and he certainly can't race 7/7 lifelink. But he rips Ghalta off the top and well I can't beat 12/12 trample. Forerunner back in instead of I don't remember what, even if I only play 2 other pirates I clearly can't allow the game to go long and brick on draws. Game 3 I go Dark Inquiry on turn 3 again, getting rid of the Dryad this time and he still kept a somewhat land heavy hand. t2 Sun Sentinel, t3 Dark Inquiry, t4 Imperial Aerosaur means he's at 15 and I've got a 5-turns clock, and that's pretty much what happens with me applying tactical chump-blocking. t3 Jadelight Ranger revealing Forerunner, played t4 to fetch for Jungleborn Pioneer, and t6 he's got an Overgrown Armasaur so yeah, I was really at risk of him just making something fly or playing Ghalta for GG or tapping one or more of my blockers at any time. But I managed to chump well enough to survive before finishing him off. 3-1 Overall I got extremely lucky to often have early plays, especially considering that I mulliganed 9 out of 10 games, only had a single 1-drop and 3 2-drops, and no real late game to speak off or big bombs (Twilight Prophet was played once without Ascend, and immediatly hit by a Waterknot to make way for lethal; on the other hand the final game of the day had a pacified one keep ripping lands and still passively putting pressure on the other player as they were racing). The games against dinos and pirates were very close, and a single removal or trick could have turned the tides numerous time (when it wasn't simply "either I kill you this turn or I die next"); again it felt like "either you have bombs or you go for the unblockable race route." I was on the "jump through hoops to get menace/flying dudes and try to handle bombs and big flyers with removal" train. The overall winner was playing Vraska, 2x Wanted Scoundrels, Chupacabra, and some removal in BGw. + Show Spoiler [prize packs] + Etalli Zetalpa Angrath Slaughter the Strong Blood Sun Merfolk Mistbinder (look it's more valuable than a bunch of rares atm!)
